Hi, I'm Hilary! I'm the mama of two amazing kiddos, Calla and Sage, and an oversized, wanna-be lapdog named Rondo. I'm a wife, daughter, sister, friend, yogi, gardener, adventurer and lover of all things mama and baby. After struggling to become a mother myself, experiencing a difficult birth process, and navigating postpartum depression, I became passionate about supporting individuals and families through the beautiful, terrifying, rewarding, and overwhelming transitions of pregnancy and new parenthood.

I had the most incredible experience working with Brigid as my birth and postpartum doula. From the moment we met, I knew I was in good hands. She exuded warmth, compassion, and expertise, making me feel supported and empowered throughout my journey. She was a calming presence, helped ease the tension with jokes and stories, provided unwavering support and encouragement every step of the way. She was there to advocate for me and helped me pick out items that my baby would need. When we brought our baby home, Brigid helped us around the home and reminded us to breathe. I loved how she reminded us that babies do not come with a manual and to trust our instincts. She helped with some newborn care, breastfeeding support , and emotional support during those challenging early days of parenthood. Her gentle guidance and reassurance helped me navigate the ups and downs of postpartum life with grace and resilience.

As an indigenous person working as a lactation counselor, childbirth educator, birth doula and postpartum doula I offer unique opportunities to integrate traditional practices with contemporary support. In this experience, the doula role extends beyond the physical recovery and infant care; it requires cultural humility , respect for ancestral knowledge and recognition of the community’s values. This experience highlights that postpartum care is not one-size-fits-all model. The doula’s presence becomes a bridge between worlds-supporting modern postpartum practices while safeguarding cultural continuity. In conclusion, working with an indigenous doula ;has given me the responsibility to practice the cultural humility of my heritage, honor my traditional knowledge and provide holistic care. Such experiences that demonstrate support is most effective when it respects identity, empowers families and nurtures both body and spirit!
