The love of a mother as she uses her strength, the love of a partner in support of labor; and love of God for us as we travel through the whole process. I am blessed with the beautiful opportunity to help others welcome the precious gift of new life into this world. My life is guided by Catholic faith, marriage, and my life’s vocation of motherhood. Hello, my name is Marissa and I'm honored to meet you. I am fascinated by the innate, primitive, and beautiful ability of our bodies to create new life. A hodgepodge of things led me to becoming a certified birth doula and yoga instructor. The two most influential being the births of my own babes. Those close to me would say I have a unique ability to calm a situation, hold a positive space, and intuitively allow things to be. These qualities made sense as a Doula. Additionally, yoga is a big part of my life (a lifestyle, I'd say...) and was immensely helpful through my pregnancies. That's why I offer a holistic approach with prenatal yoga to prepare your mind/body/spirit for an optimal birth. As an LGBTQIA+ doula, I understand that families can be built in many different ways. All that matters is that when a family is created, it happens on a foundation of love, support, trust, and safety. For birthing people, my intention is to support you tenaciously in having the most empowering, transformative, and safe birthing experience as possible. We are not meant to birth alone. As human beings bringing new human beings into the world, it is pivotal to feel affirmed and validated during our most vulnerable and authentic moments. I have 2 Children, one is 20, and the other one is almost 16. My greatest gift has been a mom for them. I love to connect birthing families with resources, educate them and get them ready to have a calm and beautiful experience in the birth of their children. As a mom, I went through a lot myself, felt so lonely in the process and I don’t want anyone to feel the same I felt. We speak Spanish and English, and hope to hire more doulas who speak other languages soon.

I entered into the childbirth field for two main reasons. First, I want to empower women through the natural methods of childbirth. I remember the feelings of strength and control that I encountered when I had my three children at home in the presence of midwives. Now, I want to pass this on to other expectant mothers. With my first pregnancy, I was alone and thought about placing my baby with adoptive parents. Then one day, along comes the most incredible woman who ended up changing my life. She was a midwife who said that she would take me on as a client for the fee of $50 (for supplies). Little did I know that she had hoped that a home birth would convince me to keep my baby. Well, her plan was a success and she has given me a gift I have yet to repay. My second reason for getting into the birthing field was because I want to eradicate the general public’s misconceptions about pregnancy and the birthing process. A woman’s pregnant uterus should not be treated as a tumorous growth to be controlled by medicine, but rather a natural event that women have been participating for many years before doctors. In most cases, birth can be accomplished safely and satisfactorily without intervention, such as drugs and surgery. The need for patience must be practiced in the presence of a laboring woman. I believe that each labor and birth is a unique and miraculous experience. I also believe that there is more than one good way to have a baby and that parents should have the proper tools available for effective informed consent and informed refusal.
