I am a DONA certified and Medi-Cal approved birth doula and mother of two. I believe birth is a natural physiological process, and a sacred passage: for mother, parents, baby, and family. I understand pregnancy and childbirth to be a deeply transformative time. As a Christian, I celebrate every baby born into the world as a unique and precious gift from God. My passion to become a birth doula grew from witnessing my nephew's birth and then having two boys of my own. Like many women, I was fearful of childbirth due to my limited understanding. Birth was rarely talked about by the women in my life and if it was, pain was typically the main subject. Watching my nephew’s birth showed me that birth can be beautiful. I believe that as women, our bodies were designed by God to birth well. While complications do happen, they are not the rule. Birth is a natural physiological process. It is hard work and can be uncomfortable or painful, but that is not all. Birth is a transformative, life changing experience no matter how it happens: unmedicated or medicated, vaginal or cesarean, home birth, birth center, or hospital.

I've been working with infants and their families for 9+ years. I am a certified postpartum doula, birth doula, Newborn Care Specialist, and Certified Sleep Coach. Hello there! My name is Cynthia Alvarado and I identify as she/her. I'm happily married to a wonderful man, and we have a beautiful 12-year-old boy, who is currently in middle school. My journey in Baby Night Care began in 2011 when a dear friend of mine, who is a Doula, recommended that I take a Doula training course. At that time, I had no idea what a doula was, but I was fascinated when she explained it to me. I loved babies and was excited to work with them and nurture families in their postpartum journey. When I took my doula training, I was eighteen and pregnant with my son Julian Alvarado! Julian was my first experience with newborns, and it was an incredible experience for me. As I was young and had no work experience, I started as a part-time daytime nanny. Later on, I began doing night nanny work while still working daytime. I slowly started building my experience and resume, and eventually started working full-time night-time only as a postpartum doula. Since then, I have continued my education in newborn and postpartum care, and I've become a Certified Doula, a Certified Newborn Specialist, a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, and I've earned a degree in Child Development, specializing in infant care. I have been working with families for over ten years now, and I absolutely love it. I have combined all my careers to provide personalized care that fulfills each family's unique needs. I offer emotional and lactation support, education, resources, empowerment, and nurturing for the whole family, as well as baby care services. My name is Darby and I work primarily as an Overnight Newborn Care Specialist and Postpartum Doula. As a Newborn Care Specialist I support you in your first 12-20 weeks home with a new baby with 30 to 60 hours a week of overnight or daytime care. I will get you set off on the right foot when it comes to having a healthy sleep schedule; working to get your little one (or ones!) sleeping through the night as it becomes age appropriate. I will support their eating needs to ensure their intake supports age appropriate growth and successful sleep, whether that is through breast feeding, formula feeding, bottle feeding or some combination of those options. And most importantly I will be able to keep a close eye on your newest and tiniest family member to make sure their health, development, and habits are all trending in the right direction. Overall my objective is to get a sense for your goals in the first few months to help educate, support, and assess the baby’s and family’s needs. As a postpartum doula my work will look very similar but will have the parent take the lead more. I will be there as your shadow to support with healthy healing for mom and baby. I can offer education, nurturing, assessments of postpartum recovery and referrals to other folks who would help you be successful during this unique time in life.
