I was lead to birthwork through my unwavering belief that we have ourselves and each other in order to create a better world. Each of us contains a unique set of skills and knowledge that allows us to rely on each other, to keep each other safe, and to come home to. Being a doula is serving my part in this world I hope we can continue to build together. I believe pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are incredibly special times in a person’s life, and what an honor it is to be accepted into one’s unique experience of having a baby. A mother and parent’s responsibility is to care for and to teach their baby, but often those very needs are not provided for them when they need it most. My goal as your doula is to center the autonomy, intution, and voice of the mother and to work in tandem with her needs. My doula philosophy is if I can center mom and her wellbeing, she will be able to best support her baby. Gracias por la luz, or “thank you for the light”, is borne from the strong and grounded, yet gentle nature of my maternal grandmother, Luz. The name comes from the light we all have within to do good onto others and emphasizes how my practice is grounded in gratitude for all families I am lucky enough to work and share space with.

Julie was an absolute lifesaver for our family. She helped us set our baby up for sleep success and gave us such great breastfeeding advice. Julie's emotional support for mom was just what we needed, and her incredible care and attention as our baby grew and her needs changed were so reassuring. It felt like Julie became a part of our family during that time, and her presence made everything so much easier. We couldn’t have asked for a better postpartum doula and are so grateful for everything she did for us. Highly recommended!

I was so happy to have Ally by my side for the delivery of my son! Our prenatal sessions with super informative and made me feel prepared and confident going in to the birth process. Most of all, I deeply appreciated Ally's peaceful, intuitive, and positive nature throughout my labor. That is exactly what I needed most leading up to and during birth. I have a lot of great memories around my birth, attributed largely to the support and environment that Ally helped create throughout the whole process. I highly recommend hiring Ally as a doula. Their care was so crucial for my family. Our OB and nurses also commented on how nice it was to have them there with us during birth!

Hey yall hey, your Brooklyn-based doula Ebony, here to guide you on your empowered birthing journey. ✊ My path to birthwork stemmed from a deep yearning for the feminine wisdom that was often missing in my own experience✨ That yearning ignited a passion in me to empower women to rediscover their inherent birthing power. I believe in women-managed birth, a philosophy rooted in the understanding that birth is a natural, physiological process, deeply connected to a woman's inner wisdom and strength. My approach honors the tradition of women-managed birth, drawing inspiration from the time before hospitals and doctors took center stage. I believe in trusting your body's incredible wisdom and supporting you in making informed choices throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Together, let's rewrite the narrative around birth. Let's tap into the wellspring of feminine knowledge within you and create a birthing experience that is positive, powerful, and unforgettable.

I am a certified postpartum doula, lactation counselor, mother, and designer. I was born in NYC and grew up between Brooklyn and Honolulu, where my parents met. Surrounded by natural beauty in Hawaii, I became really interested in plants and studied the ways they're used as natural medicine in indigenous cultures. I dove further into holistic wellness and lived in an ashram in India, where I obtained my yoga teaching certification. It became clear to me that one can be healed by connecting the mind and body with nature. I love to create nourishing meals that incorporate healing herbs to nurture the body into a balanced state of well-being. After I birthed my son, I really understood the challenges in postpartum and importance of supporting and honoring new parents in their special journey. I feel empowered to help postpartum families through one of the biggest transitions of their lives, to make them feel supported and provide resources in areas where they may feel uninformed. I currently reside in Ridgewood, NY and enjoy yoga, cooking, dancing, and tending my medicinal herb garden.

Lornnie was such a pleasure to spend time with and was so supportive. She cooked delicious and nutritious post-partum meals, cleaned the kitchen and boxed up leftovers for us for the rest of the week. Lornnie also helped us with some tips for newborn care. She is connected with the community and helped connect me to a group of new moms in the neighborhood.

I am a mother to a 5 year old and have loved children since I was a child myself. I have always been someone who enjoys helping people. I started on the path towards nursing, earning my Associate’s degree in Fall of 2022. After mostly completing my degree in summer of 2022, I realized my personality wouldn't shine in nursing. I am more empathetic and personable, which lead me to becoming a doula. I started with birth doula in August and it opened my eyes to my passion for birthwork. Shortly after, I took the postpartum doula workshop. That led me to also taking infant CPR, and earning a certified lactation support counselor as well. I am looking forward to sitting for the Lamaze CBE exam Fall of 2023. I have worked with families both prior to these certifications and currently and I can’t wait to explore and learn more

Antasia was an incredible support for my husband and I when we needed overnight care for our newborn. After interviewing many people, we had been turned off by those who were strict about their approach and seemed to want to impose their practices on our family. As new parents, we needed tenderness and flexibility—someone who would care for our son at night and allow us to sleep peacefully knowing our son was safe and being tended to the way we choose to raise him. Antasia was a calm and responsive presence, working with us to adapt to changes as our newborn developed and we grew as parents. She was always on time and communicated proactively in the rare instance there was a scheduling issue. At the start of every visit she asked us what changed and what was new, which was helpful as newborns change on a weekly basis and so did our approach. We were always at peace knowing Antasia was coming. I also was able to recover from insomnia due to Antasia’s presence and my confidence in her to look after our child while we slept. Our only regret was not meeting her sooner so we could have had her with our family on day 1 coming home from the hospital.

Hi! I’m Sasha Lazare and I am a DONA trained birth doula. Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, I moved to New York to attend acting school many years ago. I first felt called to be a doula after the birth of my first daughter when a complicated pregnancy and birth was made joyful and empowering by my own incredible doula. After the birth of my second daughter with the life-changing assistance of that same doula, I felt a deep desire to be a permanent part of these sacred birthing spaces, and to share with other birthing people what my doula gave to me. I treat each birth with compassion, respect, and humor, and deeply honor each unique experience. I am steadfast in my belief that all birthing people deserve non-judgmental, unwavering support. I live in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn with my husband, two daughters, and our dog Eloise. I am so grateful to be a part of your journey.

I have been helping to improve birth experiences in NYC and Westchester County for over a decade. This is my philosophy: You don’t become a different person when you become pregnant, begin labor, enter your birthing space, or bring your baby home for the first time. You’re still you, having an intense and transformative life experience. As your doula, I take the time to learn who you are and what will help you and your family to feel comfortable, informed, prepared, and ready to engage with your birth, both in advance and through the ever-changing moments of the birth process. I am passionate, flexible, and comforting, but also grounded, no-nonsense, and strongly evidence-based.

First of all, I must commend the Doula Project itself as an invaluable advocate. Sometimes the medical establishment views us within categories--especially when we are unusual as a result of identity--while the Doula Project listens to us as individuals in order to advocate for us to have the birth closest to our ideal within the context of medical wisdom. From the start I really appreciated Vicki's encouraging me to ask questions, to determine what the range of choices was, and to understand the benefits and risks of each decision. In my own case, I did decide because of advanced maternal age and medical advice to have an induced labor. Vicki was there to meet me at the hospital when I checked in, and she made sure that between her and her Doula Project partner on my case, I always had a doula to advocate for me from start to finish, through 27 hours of labor and beyond. Indeed, Vicki took the first photo of my baby, within minutes of her birth! From our first pre-birth meeting, Vicki correctly identified me as a physically fit person who would benefit from maintaining a physically active relationship to my labor and delivery. I brought a yoga mat and pilates ring to the hospital, and Vicki advocated for my being able to use them, even though my baby had to be monitored throughout the induced labor: we set up my yoga and pilates equipment right next to the bed, and Vicki advocated for periodic breaks from the monitor, especially in light of the fact that my baby was doing so well throughout. When I delivered my daughter, I surprised a number of the doctors, including one who thought a C-section would be a foregone conclusion, by delivering vaginally, after only about five minutes of pushing. I am very grateful to Vicki for her steadfast advocacy that led to such a positive birth experience for me and my daughter.
