Kortny provided the most gentle, respectful, yet empowering, doula support. She is a huge advocate for mom and baby. I have become a true advocate for doula support for my friends and family members and within the community thanks to the support I received during my pregnancy and postpartum journey. I am always happy to share my story because Kortny is a huge reason why our beautiful daughter made it here safely, naturally, and the way we planned together.  My boyfriend and I's relationship began with Kortny in the first trimester. She provided advice on setting up a birth plan, exercises to stretch my growing body, a breakdown of what's to come over the rest of our pregnancy and information on how she would support us in the postpartum phase. She taught my boyfriend various techniques to support me in and out of bed, as my belly grew and pulled on my every being, when contractions began and throughout my labor. He was honestly my secondary doula/midwife. He was more than prepared to handle every phase of labor when the time came. She truly encouraged and empowered him to bring his child down the birthing canal and provide his girlfriend with the utmost support and as I transitioned into the active labor portion and pushed.  Throughout each trimester, Kortny was a call away for any questions/concerns we had from each appointment with our OB. She advocated for me in more instances than I truly expected. I also appreciated her encouraging me to stand on decisions we discussed for the birth plan and in real time as they came up. Our daughter was due November 22, 2022. Our OB advised an induction if she did not come by Thanksgiving weekend. I shared with Kortny that I did not want an induction because I was nervous about any drugs I would be given to induce my labor. I wanted to experience my watering breaking, rushing to the hospital in excitement, packing the car - all those dreamy, movie-like things. By chance, or God's grace - I ended up having contractions the early morning of my set induction date, November 30, 2022.  I immediately texted Kortny to share what I saw in the bathroom in coordination with my timed contractions. It was time FOR REAL this time. No induction needed. Just breathing, lots of snacking and funny shows to carry me through. I labored at home for 16 hours. The hospital was ten minutes away leaving room for me to labor comfortably at home until I felt that we needed to go. When that moment came, Kortny quickly arrived at the hospital to support me through the remaining portion of my labor. She continued to advocate for me when nurses got pushy. She continued to advocate for my request for a natural birth when the OB on call stated that my blood pressure was close to determining an unnecessary C-section. She encouraged me to ask for pain medicine if I felt it was needed. We had our safe word but, we never needed it. With the team in motion, I waded my way through to the end. She provided the kind of support that was like a fly on the wall ninja style. While Kortny was there the entire way, I felt so empowered in my own actions beyond my own understanding so much so that I accomplished the goals we set at the very beginning of this journey.  The same care was provided in the postpartum phase. We discussed all of the necessary standardized questions but Kortny went the extra mile asking me about our living space and how that affected us as new parents and explained how those feelings trickled down to how supported we felt in caring for our child. She held space for both my boyfriend and I that we didn't know we needed. I love that Kortny included my boyfriend in every aspect because men aren't normally provided that support and space. His understanding of what was happening every step of the way mattered to me and she articulated it so beautifully for what we both needed throughout this experience. It was truly the most spiritual connection and experience I have ever endured. As we prepare to celebrate one year as parents to the beautiful one in the pictures below, I highly recommend Kortny Feurtado for any role with your organization. She is made for this role 10000%! May her skills and radiant personality touch the lives of many other families to come!

I highly recommend Liv. They were so helpful postpartum for me and my baby. Having a NICU baby was difficult, but Liv was there to help. I felt confident taking a nap or showering and leaving my baby with them. They continued to help me through the postpartum process as a first time mom who also had a c-section. Liv had plenty of advice and tips and trick to help me. I felt comfortable asking all my question. It was nice to have someone knowledgeable to talk. I cannot recommend them enough. I will definitely be calling Liv for my next baby!

We are so grateful that Tiana was recommended to us by a trusted source. Tiana supported us with three overnights and two weeks of virtual texts and phone calls (as needed) to help us sleep train our daughter. Our LO was 11 months old and still only sleeping about two hours at a time, we had tried to night wean and crib naps and so many other things, but nothing helped her connect her sleep cycles except for nursing. Tiana came up with a sleep plan that met our LO where she was and made us feel comfortable. She guided us to support baby to soothe and sleep independently in such a gentle way and helped us make a huge transition so much easier. After the two weeks, baby was sleeping 5-6 hours at a time in her crib in her own room! Working with Tiana was honestly so amazing and improved our whole families’ quality of life. Thank you, Tiana!!

My name is Hannah and I’m a birth and postpartum doula. I have a Bachelors in Elementary Education and taught kindergarten until my son was born in 2020. Although my role adjusted when becoming a mother, a fire was ignited through my birth experience, and I started researching how I could make a difference. After my daughter’s redeeming home birth in 2022, I knew that becoming a doula was a tangible way I could impact mothers and the next generation for the better. By providing emotional support, evidence-based information and physical support, I strive to make the family’s life changing, transitional time a smoother one. I am trained through DONA as a birth doula and Lifespan doulas for postpartum work. Besides classroom experience, I also have nannied for several families over the past few years. It is my goal as your birth or postpartum doula to make you feel seen and heard. In my free time, you can find me spending time with my kiddos outside, serving at our local church, grabbing coffee with friends, going on family walks or experimenting in the kitchen.

Hannah was able to provide me with virtual and in person support for the birth of my baby. She quickly responded to any question I had and gave me clear, practical information tailored for me. She shares your emotional journey in a way that makes you feel empowered and validated for any feeling or question you may have. She is sweet, knowledgable, and comprehensive about what she knows. She is prepared with lots of different ideas for pain-reducing techniques during the natural birth of my baby as well as providing alternatives when needed. She displays an assertive, yet respectful bedside manner and advocates to the doctors and nurses with for your best interest. She checked in frequently and even reached out many times after my baby was born to check not only on the baby, but also me as well to see how I was doing physically and emotionally. She took lots of time to help me find out an answer to a pain I was having after birth and resolve it. She is easy to talk to and understanding of what you are going through. I would highly recommend hiring Hannah Wright to be your doula.

From the moment we met Heather, she felt like a member of our family. She was instrumental in helping us achieve a beautiful labor and birth, advocating for my preferences, managing pain, and guiding me through various positions to facilitate progress in labor. In the weeks leading up to the birth, Heather dedicated several hours to preparing my partner and me. She encouraged us to consider different scenarios, practiced Spinning Babies techniques with us, and discussed my labor preferences in detail. Thanks to her calming expertise, we approached the experience without anxiety, confident in Heather’s support. When I faced a complication after delivery, Heather remained by our side throughout. She guided my partner in supporting me and advocated to keep our baby with me at all times—something I believe greatly contributed to the positive outcome of our situation. After we were discharged, Heather visited us at home and provided invaluable practical support that we hadn’t received at the hospital. She helped with swaddling, bottle feeding, soothing a fussy baby, and even advised us on some essential overnight Amazon purchases. During this time, Heather also assisted us in navigating and processing the trauma we experienced, validating our complex feelings and helping us appreciate the beauty of our birth. Heather will always be a cherished part of our family and our story. We cannot recommend her services enough.

***FOR INQUIRIES EMAIL***: Hello@mothersisterfriend.org Site:https://www.MotherSisterFriend.org When Brittany became a mom at 19, she recalls feeling afraid, unprepared, and disconnected from herself. She lacked a strong support system, and self-advocacy was a foreign concept to her. All she knew was to follow doctors' orders. So, she suffered through her first HG pregnancy without treatment, showed up at the hospital at the first sign of contractions, and birthed her baby via cesarean for reasons unknown. When she became pregnant with her second child a few years later, she was more intentional in finding a care team to support her in achieving her birth goals. She hired doula-midwives from whom she received all of her prenatal care. Despite Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) and other stressors negatively impacting that pregnancy as well, having an attentive and supportive care team that centered her needs and respected her bodily autonomy influenced a more positive and empowering experience. Inspired by her journey, Brittany felt compelled to pay it forward. She believes everyone deserves a safe, informed and empowering birthing experience. Recognizing the implications of birthing while Black in America, she actively challenges coercive healthcare practices and, alongside many dedicated birth workers, strives to improve the state of Black maternal and infant healthcare.

So many good things I could say but my experience with Brittany was nothing short of amazing!!!! My birth didn't go as planned so instead of a vaginal unmedicated birth I had to have a cesarean. However Brittany explained everything step by step which made me relax a bit. She also helped me prepare a birthing plan for a vaginal as well as a cesarean birth. I've never felt so empowered. One of the very few people that I would entrust with my son while I showered and took some much needed rest with my door shut! No worries at all. A meal prepared and a clean house. As Moms we need our village!!! Thank you for everything! 💙💚 Round 2 lol

I can't remember a time when I was not passionate about family issues, and particularly family health. I had my first child at a young age, and found the perinatal landscape entirely bewildering. Mostly alone, I had no idea what was happening to me and my baby, or how to provide for him once he was born (and later, when he was quite sick). The experience strengthened my desire to support others who find themselves similarly lost at the hands of an impersonal medical institution. I am committed to helping families access evidence-based information for informed decision-making, and to helping improve the birth experience for all families. I serve families of all types, and I specialize in trauma-informed care, bereavement support, disability advocacy, and neurodivergence, Additionally, I am conversant in Spanish, French, and American Sign Language (ASL). The journey into familyhood should be a time of joy, love, and familial and community support. I founded Family Ways with the intention to help bring such an experience to any individual and family who wants and needs it, and to strengthen the family bond—no matter what shape the family takes. I am honored to have been able to share in the lives of so many beautiful families, if for just this one crucial moment.
