However, my path to becoming a birth doula was not without obstacles. Before conceiving my oldest, I faced some difficult pregnancy losses. To help heal and cope with these losses, I turned to writing and expressed my feelings through a love letter or poem dedicated to my future rainbow baby. This experience not only brought me solace, but also deepened my understanding and empathy for other women facing similar struggles. It was this profound sense of empathy and the desire to support and empower women that ultimately inspired me to become a birth doula. With every client I work with, I am reminded of the importance of providing emotional, physical, and informational support during such a transformative time in a woman's life. I am a widowed mother of four children between the ages of 19 and 22 who were born within three years. My first birth was at age 35 with a female physician in rural Maine, who was previously a midwife. I also had a female prenatal and postpartum doula who helped me find my confidence as a new mother. My second birth was a mandatory cesarean for breech & transverse presentation of fraternal male twins at age 38. Although the male physician would not grant requested delayed cord clamping, I was permitted to take the placentas home to plant a tree in honor of the birth. My fourth child was born in my 40th year as a rapid fire VBAC at a freestanding birth center with a midwife and doula in attendance. I have served as a pre-partum and postpartum doula, and am an experienced night nanny with a high success rate with sleep training. I do not adhere to any particular philosophy, serving only to support parents and caregivers with strengthening their own parental instincts. Hi! I'm Nayo a certified birth and postpartum doula. My approach to doula-ing is one that is very family centered. I love for my families to have all of the facts and then they make the best decision for them. I enjoy journeying with families through birth and postpartum. I'm a proud mama of two smart, rambunctious boys. I love to cook for and spend quality time with my family and friends. When birthing schedule allows, I also love travelling. I found my way to being a doula after the birth of my second baby. Though my pregnancy and birth were perfectly planned and perfectly played out, I had nothing setup and prepared for postpartum. Two days after I gave birth I was up making myself breakfast, getting my oldest off to school, and driving myself and new baby to his first pediatric appointment. I felt alone and isolated. Many days I would just cry from being overwhelmed. I told my doula and lactation consultant that as soon as I was healed I would train to be a postpartum doula so that no other families nor mom would have to suffer in silence. Now, as a birth and postpartum doula, I get to make sure that moms can have the birth they want, and a peaceful, sustainable life after their sweet baby has arrived. It's truly my passion to ensure families thrive through this wild time in their lives.
