My name is Krystal Brisette Vélez-Gómez-Edwards and I am of Indigenous-Mexicana and Nicaragüense descent. I am open to supporting all births of all beliefs and practices. I am passionate about my own cultural work and practicing as a traditional, Mexican doula, acknowledging birth as ceremony. My first career path was in nursing until I discovered my dismay with Western medicine and healthcare. Years later I experienced the birth of my son, Michael, who is now 16. I was 21 and had no support outside of my marriage, I had no clue what I was doing and I didn't know what I didn't know. I ate awfully and gained at least 70 pounds. When my water broke and I was admitted to the hospital, I was soon told I would need a cesarean due to my son going into "distress." I planned to have a natural birth, but here I was receiving an epidural (fentanyl!) and being cut open and tugged at from within. I was so detached from my own body. My baby was taken from the room and I didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits and pleasure of skin-to-skin bonding, our 'golden hour' to breastfeed peacefully. I suffered from postpartum depression and learned to bury and forget the experience because I figured that's just how it was. It wasn't until years later that it came up for me and was a catalyst for many positive changes in my life. I was a few years into healing work with indigenous medicines and in one of my own ceremonies, I received a calling to bring ceremony back to birth, along with visions of burying a placenta at a sacred tree. I began researching traditional Mexican birth work to discover that this was in fact an indigenous tradition. I dedicated myself to the journey of birth work. I obtained training in many facets of holistic birth work and traditional, Mexican birth work, including herbalism to support birth and postpartum, womb healing, rebozo work, techniques for comfort and pain management as well as repositioning breech babies, lactation support, craniosacral therapy, cerrada de caderas (traditional closing ceremony), and the list continues to grow. I have been studying safe use of psychedelics during pregnancy and birth. As a traditional, certified holistic birth and postpartum doula, my primary role is to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to you during pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and beyond. I believe birth work is sacred and magical. Most importantly, I'm passionate about incorporating traditional practices into my work, which means I can also draw on indigenous knowledge and rituals to enhance and support your desired birthing experience. Together, we'll navigate this journey, ensuring you feel empowered and well-supported throughout.

Cristal was absolutely essential to my uncomplicated delivery of my child. Her warmth and knowledge gave me the confidence and peace to go within myself and have an unmedicated delivery in the hospital. Being able to text her with any questions during and before early labor was incredibly comforting and helpful. Cristal was also a tremendous support for my mom and husband in the hospital, making the whole experience more personalized and less stressful. She provided them with the confidence and reassurance they needed, creating a calm and supportive environment for all of us. At the end of my quarentena, Cristal performed my cerada de caderas ceremony, which was beautiful and just the pampering I needed. This ceremony helped me reconnect with my roots and heal from my previous two birthing experiences. Cristal's support, both during and after delivery, was invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for her presence during this important time in my life. Thank you, Cristal, for everything you've done for me and my family!

I'm a queer, Black birth worker offering sliding scale doula care in the East Bay. I was born and raised in Oakland and I only take on a handful of clients at a time so that I can give you as much individualized attention as possible. I trained as a full-spectrum doula in 2021 with Sumi's Touch and have been actively supporting clients in the transformative process of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum for over a year. Before that, I worked as an infant-toddler teacher for years and I incorporate education on newborn care in my work as a doula. I believe that education and information is critical to you being able to make choices that work best for you and go into birth with confidence and grounding in your abilities and understanding of your own body and baby. The goal of every birth is to create an environment and process that is uniquely comfortable and grounding for the person giving birth and so I provide a number of prenatal sessions to prepare parents with the knowledge and tools to make their own informed decisions while also being ready to step in and advocate on behalf of the parents' needs at any point. I am particularly interested in mindful birthing and finding the methods of pain reduction that work for each person, building a birth environment that feels as familiar and homey as possible (music, lighting, calming scents, etc), and being anything and everything you may need from home to the hospital, whether that be a coach, cook, massage therapist, fierce advocate, or photographer. I also have an affinity for postpartum care that encompasses lactation support, postpartum healing, herbal remedies, baby care, or just doing your dishes so you don’t have to worry about that too.

I was in labor for three days, and I can’t imagine how I would’ve managed without Leila. She is the support every person deserves during this process. She listened to my needs and helped me create a birth plan that reflected my personality. At the hospital, she advocated for me fiercely, pushing for alternatives that aligned with my wishes, even when the medical team repeatedly fear-mongered. Postpartum, she offered invaluable advice that helped me process my labor experience and navigate lactation. I am incredibly grateful that I had her by my side.

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to introduce myself to you and share a little about what I do! My name is Kirsten Junghans and I am a DTI full spectrum doula, sleep trainer and postpartum chef. I serve the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm a single mother to an 11 year old kiddo named Ivy. As a doula my job is to make sure you know that your curiosities, concerns and questions are valid. The need to be reassured and supported are normal and valid as well. I am an advocate for all birthing individuals. With that being said, it is my responsibility and honor to comfort and support you in labor. I will tirelessly advocate for you to have the birth you want, to answer your questions and to explain what is happening. However, I will not be taking away your power by making every decision for you. This is your body, your birth and your baby. My job as your advocate and support person is to make sure you are informed of all your options, so that you don't ever lose your rights to bodily autonomy when you walk into the hospital. As your advocate I will do my utmost to support you and your choices while explaining your options to you. You are still in control, and that is very important to me! As a postpartum doula, I never overlook the importance of following up with you after your baby's birth. I will support you in the days, weeks or even months afterward. There are many types of support I offer including, feeding support, emotional support, helping you find a rhythm, preparing meals, and holding the baby so you can sleep. Everything I do is done to empower you and help you feel confident in your new role. The most important thing I do during the postpartum period is encourage you to rest and bond with your new baby. The weeks after birth are an immensely beautiful and emotional time. This is not the time to worry about cleaning and jumping back into your normal life. It's time to rest and get to know the child you've waited so long to meet!

Hi, I’m Rhonda! I’m a Certified Birth Doula and Maternal-Child Health Nurse with 10 years of experience in Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby care. I became a doula two years ago after seeing how much families benefit from calm, compassionate support during birth and postpartum. My goal is to create a peaceful, nurturing space where parents feel informed, cared for, and confident. Based in the Bay Area, I serve Emeryville and surrounding communities. I’m also a proud mom of three grown children and love reading, exploring California, and spending time with my family. Calm nights. Compassionate care. With loving hands. 🤍

I am so grateful I met Rhonda. Before meeting her, I honestly had no idea what a doula did or what postpartum care really looked like. This was my first baby, and I had the privilege of meeting Rhonda even before she was born while I was hospitalized with PPROM. From the start, Rhonda went above and beyond. She took incredible care of me, advocated for me when things didn’t seem right, and always made sure my voice was heard. I looked forward to seeing her because I knew she would listen, explain everything clearly, and bring a sense of calm when I felt anxious or uncertain. Once my baby came home, Rhonda continued to support us through postpartum care, helping us adjust to our new routine. As a first-time mom, my anxiety was through the roof, but Rhonda made me feel confident and reassured. She walked me through every detail, from safe sleep and sponge baths to proper latching and feeding. She even stayed overnight to help with newborn care, and though I had a little separation anxiety, I knew my baby was in the very best hands while I got some much needed rest. I can’t imagine going through this journey without her. Going forward, I’ll never do another pregnancy without a doula — and especially not without Rhonda. She was there for me every step of the way, before and after birth, and made my entire experience one I’ll always cherish.

I’m a patient, compassionate, and reliable overnight doula who specializes in getting baby on a schedule, sleep training, and helping families transition into postpartum. I am calm and cool under pressure. I worked 6 years in Emergency Medicine as an EMT in San Francisco and did NICU transports of premature babies. I am passionate about my work since I truly believe it takes a village to care for children and want to help many families in enjoying postpartum rather than just surviving it! I am flexible and friendly and love good communication. When I’m not working, I enjoy powerlifting, singing, and doing jigsaw puzzles. Supporting new parents during the sacred early days of parenthood is not just my work—it's my calling. I became a postpartum doula because I believe every family deserves to feel cared for, understood, and supported as they adjust to life with a newborn. My journey into this field began when I moved to California during my two years as an au pair, caring for young children and living closely with families. That experience sparked a deep passion in me for helping others navigate the tender, transformative moments of new beginnings. I saw firsthand how much of a difference compassionate, hands-on support can make —and I knew I wanted to offer that to growing families in a deeper way.

I hired Liz to care for my toddler and newborn (prenatally, birth, and postpartum). Needless to say, I couldn’t have done it without her. She is an excellent communicator, very flexible, and approaches this sacred work with warmth and intuition. She always informed me of the details of my baby’s temperament, reactions, feeds, sleep etc, allowing for a smooth handoff. She also provided me with emotional and domestic support - whatever I needed most in that moment. This ability is adapt, along with her knowledge (maternal health, newborn care, toddler development) were evident during every shift. I’m so grateful for the loving connection she’s built with my son—he never wants her to leave! My 9 month old is also getting attached :) 5 stars indeed.

I have been a career nanny in San Francisco for 13 years , I have worked steadily for two families that entire time. Since all 4 kids I have helped raise ( two sets of twins) are all now in school, Doula work seemed like a perfect transition. Last year I got my Postpartum Doula license and this year I have been working on my Lactation Consult Certificate. I try very hard to stay current on all pediatric reccomendations for infant care, I am fully vaccinated , current on infant CPR training and I have pristine reccomendations. I feel as if I have been taking care of babies my whole life first, as an aunt, then mama and now I am loving life as a young and energetic Grammy. I get so much satisfaction helping new parents transition succesfully into their new roles as parents. I have had the privilege of helping my daughter for a month postpartum with both of her births, as my mom helped me. It is an honor when I get to step into that role for parents without access to family. Thank you for your consideration, Julia

Julia was INVALUABLE as a doula for our first child! We worked with her for about 3 months after his birth as both a night nurse and a daytime nanny. My husband and I felt very overwhelmed at first and it was incredible to come home from the hospital and have Julia orienting us at home. She has a ton of expertise from her own experience with her family as well as her doula studies, and is great at balancing that experience with a respect for your own wishes & goals. She taught us a ton of soothing techniques, new ways to hold the baby, and ways to help his digestion with massages (which was crucial in the early weeks when he was dealing with a lot of GI issues!). She's also incredibly flexible, & easy to schedule & coordinate with, which was great for taking away stress during a busy time. The best part though is that Julia truly cares about the children she works with - she is very warm & we felt like she truly formed a connection with our baby and wanted the best for him, which as a parent is the most important thing. We continue to stay in touch. Highly recommend working with Julia!

I know how difficult it can be adjusting to new motherhood. Coping with a changing body and fluctuating hormones can leave you feeling confused, frightened and isolated. Trauma can impact your life until it feels like it IS you and not just something that happened TO you. It can feel like the trauma has destroyed your ability to function. I successfully raised an amazing son despite not knowing how to bond with him after his release from the NICU and while experiencing postpartum depression. I did not know how I was going to cope with his traumatic birth or feel like the self I was before, but I found a way to thrive with a little guidance from a postpartum depression therapist. And, my experience led me to specialize in birth trauma therapy. I decided to concentrate on perinatal mental health because of the lived experience I had with these challenges and because I feel that the bond between a mother and her baby is one of the most powerfully healing relationships that exist. I feel that if I can help guide mothers on their path to wellness, they can be more present and attuned to their babies. This strengthened relationship heals the mother and gives the baby what they need to form a solid foundation upon which all future relationships are built. A healthy mama can provide her baby with what they need to thrive, and I feel that everyone deserves a chance to thrive and to live a connected and fulfilling life. The help of a postpartum therapist can be invaluable on this journey. You can feel better. You can bond with your baby and form a connection that will help you both heal. I use EMDR and CBT to help you overcome a traumatic childbirth, NICU stay or other frightening events and process the associated feelings successfully. I offer EMDR and EMDR intensives to treat the reemergence of childhood trauma after becoming a mom. With over 20 years experience as a postpartum therapist in California, 15 years working with perinatal women, and a Perinatal Mental Heath Certification (PMH-C), I can help guide you on your parenting journey. Reach out to a perinatal therapist today to get started.

Working with Shameless Mama Wellness has been nothing short of transformative. As a new mother, I was overwhelmed with feelings of guilt, anxiety, and self-doubt, but from the moment I started, I knew I was in a safe space. Marilyn is warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental—exactly what I needed during such a vulnerable time. She encouraged me to open up about my intrusive thoughts, which I had been too ashamed to even admit to myself. I never felt rushed, and I always felt heard. Through our sessions, I’ve learned to embrace the imperfections of motherhood and find joy even in the chaos. I’ve come to understand that taking care of my mental health is not only vital for me but also for my family. What I appreciate most is that Marilyn offered practical tools that I could use daily, rather than just abstract concepts. The personalized care and genuine concern for my well-being made me feel valued, not just as a client but as a person. I can’t recommend Shameless Mama Wellness enough to any mom who feels like she’s lost herself in the process of becoming a parent. It’s been life-changing, and I’m so grateful.

Hi families! My name is Selina, I am 23 years old, born and raised in San Francisco. I am a current nursing student at the University of San Francisco pursuing my degree in Nursing. I am currently a Postnatal Care Specialist, in the process of earning my postpartum doula certification, and eventually a labor and delivery nurse! My passion for newborn care came to me when I went through a traumatic experience where I didn't have any support when I needed it the most. I then came across the Village Retreat Center in San Francisco, where I currently am employed part time, and realized how much support and words of encouragement can go a long way. My experience thus far has put me in a position where I am glad to be able to be that person in a room to lend a helping hand to give support and words of encourage along the way in families' journeys.

Recent review

I've had the pleasure to work alongside Selina and have grown fond of her worth ethic as a colleague and friend. Her upbeat personality, attention to detail, and ability to read the room during tender moments while working with families truly demonstrates her emotional intelligence and overall competence. And having a background in nursing and postnatal care assures she'd be an amazing fit for all expecting families. Would highly recommend :)

Tammy worked with us at least 5 nights a week for about 4 months caring for our newborn during the pandemic. Tammy was absolutely AMAZING!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about her. She was way better with our little Lexi than I was (I think Lexi could sense my nervous energy) and I used to joke that having her stay with us every night was like going on vacation. Sleep is everything! Tammy would come over every night and Lexi would just melt into her arms. Tammy just has a way with children, especially babies and Lexi was immediately comfortable with her. She is also the consummate professional. She is exceedingly clean, well organized and you feel VERY comfortable with her in the house. In fact, we also had her travel with us to Tahoe and we had so much fun! In such a short time, she became like family and I relied on her so much. She also went WAY above and beyond. Our little Lexi became sick one night and I ended up dragging Tammy to the ER during the height of the pandemic. She kept our little Lexi calm and I cried like a baby in her arms while we were at the hospital. It was such a blessing to have Tammy as an integral part of our family during that time and I miss her!

Hey there! I’m Sabrina, owner of Little Sprout Doula and I’m thrilled to connect with you! I’m a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula based in San Francisco, California. My journey in the birthing world started as a volunteer with the San Francisco General Hospital Birth doula program. It was such a rewarding experience, and I learned so much about how to support expectant moms and their families. After that, I had the opportunity to work at San Francisco's very first postpartum retreat center. There, I gained valuable insights into the postpartum period. Last year alone, I’ve had the joy of helping over 50 families through their postpartum journeys, and it’s been incredibly rewarding! I also participated in Sutter Hospital's Birth Doula Pilot program, where I got to dive even deeper into this work. Plus, I’ve taken a UC San Diego Lactation Educator course and completed a Spinning Babies workshop because I’m passionate about empowering expectant individuals and their families on this wonderful journey. My focus is now in birth doula support. I can't wait to share my knowledge and support with you. Let’s connect and start this amazing adventure together!

I’m a professional newborn care specialist with 10 years of experience working with babies. I am a devoted mother myself, with two young adult children whom I adore (25 and 27 years old). I love children and babies, and take care them as if they were my own. My approach is gentle and mindful to the needs of both parents and the new baby. I’ve taken care of newborn twins solo (without a team), premature babies and babies with medical conditions (such as severe reflux). I help establish a routine so that once the baby is old enough you can choose to sleep train them if you wish. I do not believe in the cry out method because if we establish the routine, they will learn to sleep without having to let them cry it out. I pour love and patience into my job and feel that working with babies and families during this special time as a new angel comes into the family is definitely my calling. My ideal role will be with a family that I can feel comfortable to work with, exchanging my experience and working as a time to make the baby and mom time more enjoyable possible. Some skills: - Baby-Led Weaning - Bottle Prep - Bottle Sanitation - Swaddling - Sleep Training – Assisting with Nursing - Medical Management - Routine Development - Log Keeping - Organization and Cleaning.

My main message is: if you’re considering having a baby I wouldn’t recommend doing it without Patty. I had the pleasure of having Patty with me full for the first 6 months of my third daughter’s life. When she arrived, Patty was the 6th baby nurse I had in the house over a 5 year period. She was by far the most skilled in terms of knowledge of babies, curiosity about how to get better and she was a wizard when it came to helping the baby with gas, burping and discomfort. I really felt she was an expert in babies and she truly has a deep passion for babies and constantly learning. She is reading about babies and in baby forums constantly. Patty was an executive assistant in Brazil at a major global pharmaceutical company. I am a CEO and my schedule is pretty high pressure and she was superbly adaptable and flexible with me if I was late on a call or needed to shift things real time. She is organized, energetic, quick, efficient and insanely reliable. You can set your watch by her. She worked 6 months straight without a day off and did 18 hours a day. I don’t know how, but she never was tired or grumpy or negative. She is like the energizer bunny. Once we had a really bad travel problem coming back from Hawaii with the whole family and she and I had to completely shift our travel and we went with the baby from Kona to Phoenix overnight, we checked into a hotel where she and the baby slept while I did a conference and 20 hours later we got on a flight and flew home. Patty was completely fine with this. This is just an example of how flexible and calm and collected she is. She is not fussy at all. I really wish I had had Patty with one of my older daughters who had really bad gas and belly issues as an infant. I know that if Patty had been there with us then, her expertise in burping and baby / GI massage would have lead to much less crying and a more pleasant infanthood for that baby. One of the things that was most important to me is that despite having had weak supply I really wanted to breastfeed through the first year. Patty was a complete and total partner to me in this and she is the only reason I made it to 9 months. Even though it made her job much harder having to wake me up every few hours, sit with me while I nursed and then bottle feed the baby while I pumped (plus dealing with all the pumping equipment!)— she was totally in, she was a wonderful cheerleader for me and she helped me never feel alone or discouraged. I cannot thank her enough for this and my guess is most baby nurses would never have been so committed, kind and self-sacrificial. I would be remiss not to mention why I picked Patty after interviewing over 30 baby nurses. The baby nurse business / industry is one I have a love / not love relationship with because when it’s your baby and your home, you want someone there who is working (it’s obviously a job) but also feels a real calling and spiritual connection with the sacredness and preciousness of babies. The first time I met Patty on video during the interview process I knew my search was over because her love for children— her own and others — was so deep and visceral. Lastly, I would note that although we never let my baby "cry it out" ever (I think that practice is super wrong), my baby was sleeping through the night when Patty left when she was 6 months old.
