Doula services provided by a partner, parent, grandparent, other relative, or friend are not eligible, even if they meet other eligibility requirements. Members also cannot serve as their own doula. Certification The doula must have an active, up-to-date certification from a recognized doula-certifying organization conferring upon them the title of doula. Workshops or certificates of attendance are not acceptable substitutes. Certifying organizations include but are not limited to DONA International, Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA), International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA), and BirthWorks International. They'll be asked to upload this certification when they complete the attestation form. Please note that their certification must cover the type(s) of service provided: Full spectrum doula certification (valid for all doula services) Birth doula certification (valid for prenatal, birth, or postpartum services) Postpartum doula certification (valid for postpartum services) Bereavement doula certification (valid for bereavement services) Training The doula must have attended at least 24 hours of evidence-informed training that included one or more of the following areas: Physiology of labor Labor doula training Antepartum doula training Postpartum doula training Bereavement training In addition, the doula must do periodic certification renewals and/or continuing education. Experience The doula must be at least 18 years old. Within the past three years, they must have a minimum of 15 hours providing doula services in one or more of the following areas: Continuous labor support for at least three childbirths as the primary labor doula supporting the birthing parent. At least two of those births must be vaginal births. The doula must also have provided antepartum and postpartum support for at least one birth. Postpartum support following at least three childbirths Bereavement support for at least three pregnancy losses
