I’m planning on giving birth at a hospital. This is my first pregnancy so I am a bit confused and unsure where to start.

Plan to give birth in hospital, have no spousal support. Would rather have doula in room during birth process .. my parents, I’d like them to come in once the birth is complete and I’m covered, out of the respect of our culture, but I definitely would love support during that time. My budget.. well I’m struggling with medical bills and legal fees and no job so I am looking for free doulas in this difficult time, or would hope my doula takes my insurance for billing - I have anthem blue cross blue shield ppo/epo plan, if that’s something she takes. My birth plan is natural but if it gets overwhelmingly difficult then c section. I am thinking epidural (maybe?) but I really dont want to give birth on my back..main goal- no episiotomy unless absolutely necessary, next main goal- avoid tearing .. heard wet rags help with elasticity, and would advocate no men and minimal resident learning on me as I don’t want to be a guinea pig and have them examine my cervix every few. I will be giving birth at Weill Cornell Alexandra Cohen hospital in NYC with my husband, Isaac, by my side. My OBGYN in Dr. Lauren Ruggiero. Aromatherapy. • I prefer to move around freely during labor. • I would like access to birthing balls, showers (if applicable). • I’d like intermittent monitoring instead of continuous, if safe. • Pain relief: I prefer to try natural methods first (breathing, massage, movement), Delivery Preferences • I would like to push in positions that feel most comfortable (squatting, side-lying, hands-and-knees). • I prefer minimal coached pushing unless necessary. • I’d like the option of mirror use or touching my baby’s head as they crown. • If a C-section becomes necessary, I’d like my partner present and skin-to-skin contact as soon as possible. ⸻ Newborn Care • Immediate skin-to-skin after birth, if baby is stable. • Delay cord clamping until it stops pulsating. • Breastfeed as soon as possible after delivery. • I prefer routine newborn procedures (vitamin K, eye ointment, weight, bath) delayed until after bonding and first feeding. I do not want the baby vaccinated. But the vitamin K shot would be fine considering I’d like for him to be circumcised. • I would like for the baby to stay in the room with me.
