I became a doula because while in the military, I was displaced from having a support system. When I got pregnant, I had to give birth in a community that looked nothing like me. I was also wildly uninformed about the rates of maternal morbidity amongst black women. These coupled ideas made me feel really uneasy about my birthing experience. I wanted to make a difference after my experience and becoming a doula turned out to be my life's passion. I pride myself on being open-minded, spiritual, and will provide you with a calm reassuring presence during your pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum.

I am a CACHE Master Newborn Care Specialist. My goal is to help families feel more comfortable, confident, and capable in caring for their precious newborn. I enjoy doing this by educating new parents on basic care, teaching them coping skills, demonstrating techniques, instilling the importance of schedules and routines, and by simply offering support during a new and exciting time! I am also a mother of two adult children so I know how important it is to build a village of support during the early days of parenthood. I am a widowed mother of four children between the ages of 19 and 22 who were born within three years. My first birth was at age 35 with a female physician in rural Maine, who was previously a midwife. I also had a female prenatal and postpartum doula who helped me find my confidence as a new mother. My second birth was a mandatory cesarean for breech & transverse presentation of fraternal male twins at age 38. Although the male physician would not grant requested delayed cord clamping, I was permitted to take the placentas home to plant a tree in honor of the birth. My fourth child was born in my 40th year as a rapid fire VBAC at a freestanding birth center with a midwife and doula in attendance. I have served as a pre-partum and postpartum doula, and am an experienced night nanny with a high success rate with sleep training. I do not adhere to any particular philosophy, serving only to support parents and caregivers with strengthening their own parental instincts. It is my practice to mirror the customs of the household, however shabbily chic, or with the spices alphabetized in the cabinet:) Experienced with serving post partum after traumatic births.

Prior to becoming an NCS I was a career nanny for 10 years, the last year of being a nanny I was doing night nanny contracts.
