About me

I'm Gwynne Knap, CAPPA Certified Postpartum Doula and Lactation Educator serving Atlanta area families since 2009. Postpartum Doula support has been a passion of mine, especially because I did not have any support when my 2 babies arrived. I provide families with emotional, informational and physical support as they begin their parenthood journey. I provide primarily overnight postpartum doula (10pm-6am) services. On occasion, I do provide daytime support… I’ve been a sunrise doula from 6am-12 noon and I’ve been a “witching hour” doula supporting a family through an often challenging part of the day, 4pm-10pm. I like to meet the new parents in their home about 6 weeks prior to the estimated due date. This meeting helps new parents feel a level of comfort with their contracted postpartum doula and it helps me get any questions, out of the way, so that on our first night together, you can head to sleep. I like to arrive at least 20 minutes early to a shift so that we can discuss your feelings and concerns. I like to know how the baby has been before my arrival. I often do my first overnight shift with you, right after you’ve been discharged from the hospital or birth center. We've already decided where caring for your newborn is most appropriate for your needs. Sometimes that place is in the nursery or sometimes that place is in the living room, near the kitchen and laundry. You determine if I am bringing baby to you to nurse at night while I’ll provide real-time lactation support. Or perhaps it makes more sense to feed the baby overnight with pumped milk and/or formula. While baby is settled and sleeping, I will wash/sanitize all pump parts and bottles, I will empty or fill the dishwasher, fold laundry and even make some blueberry muffins or a breakfast casserole. I want you to wake up feeling rested and refreshed and begin your day with a tidy kitchen and breakfast ready to eat.

Service introduction

My postpartum support focuses on the emotional and physical wellbeing of the birth giver. You are my first priority. I can provide tips and tricks on caring for your newborn, having worked with families since 2009. I have extensive experience supporting lactation and have worked with many moms who've struggled with postpartum mood disorders. I’ve been dubbed: a baby whisperer, Mary Poppins and a fairy godmother by former clients. I cherish the connection I make with new moms and celebrate our experiences working together to achieve an easier transition into motherhood or adding a 2nd or 3rd child into a family.
