It had come to my attention that there is a term called Traditional Birth Assistants who are not medical professionals but perhaps have more experience with the birth process. It is my understanding that these Birth assistants are typically found by word of mouth. I was wondering if you had any knowledge of anyone practicing this in the Cobourg or surrounding areas?

I've never been delivered by any of the OBs I've seen for prenatal care in my previous pregnancies. My wife is in her first trimester of our first child. She is currently experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety related to the process surrounding pregnancy. She will give birth at a hospital and I believe do whatever is necessary to facilitate a happy and healthy baby with whatever options are available to her to make her pregnancy/birth go as smoothly as possible. She had an eating disorder in the past and was underweight but has worked very hard to be healthier. She wants the baby, it's something we've worked towards for a few years prior to her falling pregnant but now she actually is, there is a lot of stress and anxiety preventing her from finding any enjoyment during this time which she is struggling with. I believe we would benefit from someone grounded, 'down to earth' with a no-nonsense approach who is still very empathetic and understanding of her situation. I’ve had 2 c sections but I want a vba2c so I want someone who can help support and advocate for this, someone who can coach well and communicate with me, I don’t want anything with crystals or yoga- I need straight forward and compassionate, I had back labour my first birth and baby face up- got to 9cm at home and transferred for c section where I stopped dilating, second was potentially misdiagnosed choloistasis of pregnancy- I did a c section out of fear of hearing my baby could be stillborn if we didn’t move asap… I’m trying to work on a birth plan and I would like a doulas involvement, I want to know what’s available and what I can do to make the best choice
