I plan to give birth at my home. I am unsure about my budget, since I don't know what this type of support costs. I would like to give birth at home, with my partner, a doula and a midwife. I would like a woman to assist me in birthing. I would like a natural, peaceful birth.

Would love for someone to guide me through this experience and be my advocate!

I will be having the baby at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, but I have always been interested in the option of a home birth, I haven’t fully decided. A budget is undecided since I am not sure what a midwife or doula typically costs. I am very early so I don’t have a birth plan just yet, but I do know that I think it’s important to have an additional support with me to advocate for what I will want. My choices may seem controversial to medical personnel.

I have also applied for a travel extension, which will allow my prenatal and delivery expenses to be covered under my husband’s health card (he is a PR holder). While I have hypothyroidism, it has been well-managed with medication for the past five years. I do not anticipate a high-risk pregnancy and would prefer a home birth, though I am open to alternative plans if needed. My goal is to have minimal medical intervention.
