In the family's words
I’m currently navigating an intensely full and ambitious chapter. I am actively enrolled across five master’s programs—spanning healthcare, business, and policy—so my day-to-day life is very structured, fast-paced, and analytical. My permanent home is in Fairbanks, Alaska, but I am currently staying here in Tennessee to complete my academic programs and clinical rotations, which is why I’ll be giving birth away from home here in Middle Tennessee. Because I spend so much of my mental energy coordinating high-level clinical and academic work, my biggest goal for my birth team is to have a safe container where I can completely turn off "student/[personal details hidden] brain." When it’s time to deliver, I want to simply be a first-time mom who is fully present, nurtured, and held through the process without having to manage anything. What I’m Looking For in a Doula: Grounded, Intuitive Support: I need a calming, grounding anchor in the room. Someone who can help me drop into my body, use hands-on comfort measures, and guide me through positional changes, breathing, and pain management. Objective Advocacy & Navigating the System: Even though I understand healthcare systems, being on the patient side during labor is completely different. I want someone in my corner who knows my birth preferences, helps my partner and me make informed decisions if curveballs happen, and ensures our voice is honored. First-Time Mom Education & Demystification: Because this is my first baby and I’m delivering away from my home base in Alaska, having someone to walk me through the local hospital nuances, newborn transition expectations, and feeding basics brings huge peace of mind. Postpartum Recovery & Emotional Check-ins: Balancing intensive schoolwork and a newborn means my recovery period needs intentional protection. I’m looking for postpartum guidance to help protect my rest, assist with early infant feeding, and support my mental wellness as I adjust to motherhood. Overall, I value genuine connection, clear and direct communication, and a calm, reassuring energy. I want to build a relationship where I feel completely supported in stepping back and letting my birth team take care of me. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and talking through how we can partner together! Warmly, Zanaya
