Hi, and welcome to Wholehearted Welcome. I’m Karen—but you’re more than welcome to call me Nana. I’m a mother of three—twins born by C-section and a daughter lovingly welcomed through adoption—and a proud grandmother of five, including one cherished bonus grandchild. I’m currently working toward my certification through Mama Glow, and I offer birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum support, along with sibling prep when needed.
I come to this work as an elder, a world citizen, and someone who shows up with open arms, a full heart, and a deep belief that birth is a sacred journey. I’m the kind of doula who jumps in with both feet—ready to hold space, advocate, laugh with you, cry with you, and do what needs to be done. Whether you’re parenting solo, welcoming through adoption, or finding your way as a new family, I create a warm, steady, and wholehearted space where you’ll feel supported every step of the way.

Service introduction
At Wholehearted Welcome, my goal is to offer support that feels solid and soulful. I provide birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum care that’s personal, grounded, and shaped by what you need—not a checklist. If we work together during your pregnancy, we’ll take time to get to know each other, talk through your hopes and concerns, and create a birth plan that reflects your values and voice. When labor begins, I’ll be there to support you—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—holding space, offering comfort, and helping you feel seen, heard, and supported.
After baby arrives, I stay connected. I offer postpartum visits that may include newborn care, breastfeeding support, emotional check-ins, sibling prep, or even a little help around the house if that’s what feels right. My role isn’t to take over—it’s to walk with you, offer what I can, and remind you that you’re not alone. Every family is different, and that’s where the beauty lives. I’m here with open hands and a full heart.

Frequently asked questions
What’s a birth doula?
A birth doula is someone who walks with you through the final stretch of pregnancy, labor, and birth—offering steady emotional and physical support. I’m here to help you feel prepared, supported, and confident as you bring your baby into the world.
What do you actually do during labor?
I help with things like steady touch, focused breathing, and changing positions to keep labor moving and manageable. I’m also there to support your partner so they know how to help, too.
When do you show up?
We’ll stay in touch in early labor, and I’ll join you when you feel ready for in-person support. I stay through birth and for a bit afterward.
Do you support epidurals or C-sections?
Absolutely. I support your birth—whether that’s unmedicated, medicated, or surgical. No judgment, only care.
What’s a postpartum doula?
I’m there to help you settle in after baby arrives—whether that means newborn care, feeding support, recovery guidance, or simply being a steady presence while you adjust. However your family is growing, I’ve got you.
What kind of help do you offer?
I’m there to support you through the early weeks with whatever helps most—soothing the baby while you rest, offering feeding guidance, sharing recovery tips, listening when you need to talk, helping with baby care basics, or supporting older siblings as everyone adjusts. I also offer overnight support to help you get the rest you need. My role is to be fully present, reassuring, and focused on your well-being as you welcome your newest family member.
When should I reach out?
Reach out as soon as you're thinking about support—whether you're still pregnant or already home with your baby. Many families contact me during pregnancy to reserve time in my schedule, but if your baby’s already here and you’re realizing you could use a hand, don’t hesitate. If I have availability, I’ll do all I can to step in and support you. You don’t need to have everything figured out—just reach out, and we’ll talk through what you need together. You’re not alone in this.
Do you help with twins or special situations?
es—I’ve supported all kinds of families, and I’m open to all kinds of situations. That includes twins, preemies, NICU grads, adoptive families, single parents, and blended families. I had a C-section with my own twins, and one of my children spent time in the NICU, so I understand the intensity of that experience. I’ve also been a postpartum doula for preemie twins and supported families as they transitioned home after extended NICU stays. However your journey looks, I bring experience, empathy, and steady support.
