About me

Every childbearing person deserves to feel supported, prepared, and unafraid as they navigate the wonders of pregnancy and childbirth. I’m both passionate and absolutely fascinated by this right of passage, and it is my highest privilege to guide others within their own birth stories. I became interested in childbirth education and birthwork when I was pregnant with our first baby. My partner and I attended a Bradley Method course kind of as a fluke, and it was life-changing. I did not realize how much I did not know! In addition to completing the Bradley Method course and experiencing the birth of my two children, I have worked in child and infant care for many years, including private nanny services, NatureSense Childcare Center, and The Madison Isthmus Montesorri Nedo (or nursery). I completed my Full Spectrum Doula Training, including prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum care, as well as training in fetal positioning and lactation support with Cornerstone Birthwork Training, and am certified in Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid through the Red Cross. I specialize in whole-food nutrition and dietary considerations for those with autoimmune disease and chronic illness. I live with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Crohn’s Disease and have been developing and collecting recipes and home remedies for over 10 years! I’m an expert swaddler, baby bather, sleep wrangler, lullaby lilter, routine guru, space optimizing organizer, Story reader, and love to color and play Legos with kid siblings.

Service introduction

I am a Full-Spectrum Doula offering birth, labor, and postpartum services as well as abortion and bereavement support. Basil & Onyx doula care offers unbiased and personalized education, advocacy, and support, evoking healthy pregnancies and positive birth experiences. Replacing uncertainty with a well-informed sense of wonder over the ultimate wisdom of your body and baby, giving rise to confidence and empowerment. Once your baby is born, as a postpartum doula, I work to ease the transition by taking care of the busy work around the house and ensuring your family’s needs are met. This can include anything from laundry and dishes to childcare, meal prep, or even running errands outside of the house. My role is to provide unbiased support and encouragement as you navigate the journey that is the 4th trimester and to support you in feeling confident and grounded while trusting that you know what is best for you, your body, your baby, and your family.

ditch the uncertainty, bring on the confidence Basil & Onyx doula care offers unbiased and personalized education, advocacy, and support, evoking healthy pregnancies and positive birth experiences. Replacing uncertainty with a well-informed sense of wonder over the ultimate wisdom of your body and baby, giving rise to confidence and empowerment. When you partner with me as your doula, you can expect: On-call 24/7 support from 37 weeks through birth I’m just a text or phone call away to answer questions, alleviate concerns, and provide you with encouragement and peace of mind. 4 in-person prenatal visits I’ll meet with you several times before the big event. During this time together, we’ll get to know each other, establishing trust and confidence. I’ll help you make informed choices about your pregnancy and care by providing you with unbiased information about your rights and choices concerning your birth, your body, and your baby. We’ll work together to create a birth plan that honors your choices and highlights elements of your birth that you feel passionate about. I’ll provide education and hands-on support encompassing nutrition, relaxation (including soothing massage, reflexology, and counter-pressure), natural remedies, labor techniques and positions, birthing rights, and autonomy. Continuous Care Once your labor starts, I’ll be closely connected with you and your birthing team. If you are birthing in a hospital or birthing center, I’ll assist you in determining when it is time to go. While in active labor, I’ll be with you to reassure you and your partner, guiding you through the labor techniques that resonated with you during our prenatal visits. I’ll take an active role in making sure you are well supported, well nourished, hydrated, and as comfortable as possible while your body does its thing. I’ll work alongside your birth team (midwife or hospital staff) to implement your birth plan and advocate for you as needed. I’ll stay with you for 1-2 hours once your baby is born to ensure you have everything you need. Capturing the Moment I’ll take care of keeping a birth log that will become your birth story, and I can take photos if desired. Postpartum We’ll have two postpartum visits to check in on you and baby and go over the details of your birth if you’re ready. The first visit is usually about 24-48 hours after baby is born, and the second visit a few days to a week later. Inclusivity I vow to serve all birthing people and neonatal caregivers without bias. Every person is entitled to compassionate care and unbiased, science-based information. Investment My full-spectrum prenatal, labor & birth doula package is $1800. I believe cost shouldn’t be a barrier to receiving care. I offer payment plans as well as a sliding scale for low-income families.

Leah was there for me 24/7 if I needed her or had a question, and has been 100% there for us from prenatal to postpartum. She kept me grounded and connected to what was happening to my body throughout my pregnancy and was knowledgeable about what I could do to help ease any pain or discomfort. Leah thoroughly prepared me for and guided me through each stage of labor and taught me how to recognize when it was time to go to the hospital. Leah offered so much support and reminded me that this is my pregnancy, my body, and while in the hospital, my voice is important. She made sure I understood that I had the right to ask questions and to say no at any point. She made me feel empowered. After our baby was born, Leah helped us feel confident in our abilities and has been an invaluable presence in our household for these first months. We are so happy to have had her by our side through this amazing experience.
