Trauma-Informed Birth & Postpartum Doula + Mind-Body Birth Support Specialist - serving sensitive souls, trauma survivors & diverse families with holistic, inclusive care.
Virtual support worldwide | In-person in Philadelphia, Florida & travel throughout US
I believe in care that meets you exactly where you are - honoring both the profound transformation and messy reality of reproductive experiences. As a Somatic Experiencing (SE) student with a psychology background, I offer trauma-informed doula care that integrates nervous system regulation and mind-body birth support. I go beyond logistics to support the emotional complexity, relationship dynamics, and identity shifts that accompany life-changing transitions.
After navigating my own pregnancy experiences with minimal support and feeling dismissed by medical systems that couldn't hold the complexity of mind/body connection, I became passionate about offering the embodied, compassionate support I needed, but couldn't find. My approach centers on the emotional and relational complexities of becoming parents - drawing from over a decade of somatic-based, trauma-informed intimacy and relationship coaching to focus on the psychological and somatic shifts that come with growing a family.
I specialize in supporting empaths, sensitive souls, cycle-breakers, LGBTQIA+ and non-traditional families, and those seeking heart-centered, evidence-based, identity-affirming care that honors their full humanity.
Whether you're seeking birth doula support, postpartum care, pregnancy loss support, or prenatal preparation, I provide grounding support through nervous system regulation, practical advocacy, body-based somatic tools, and steady, non-judgmental presence that helps you stay connected to your identity and agency while navigating medical systems and profound personal transformation.

Every transition unfolds uniquely. I offer individual sessions, daytime and overnight packages, and custom blends of calls, in-person support, or extended sessions. Reach out and we can co-create a plan that fits.
Care can include:
- Postpartum Integration – Space to care for your internal world: identity shifts, relationship dynamics, and mental/emotional load. Navigate tender emotions, difficult thoughts, relationship conflict, or fear of loss of your sense of self.
- Postpartum Deep-Dive Support – A high-impact strategy session blending practical guidance with grounded support. Practical tools for newborn care, physical recovery, and emotional layers, plus nervous system regulation and a toolkit for somatic self-care.
- Daytime Postpartum Support – We map out how to use our time together – whether that’s talking through a challenge, strategizing a tricky situation, or freeing your hands so I can handle that one thing on your list that’s been draining your battery all week.
- Overnight Support – Full overnight doula care so you can actually sleep — not the half-sleep, one ear always open kind, but real, restorative rest. I take over through the night so you wake up with something left in you.

From the moment we connected, Lorrae created a space where I felt genuinely seen, affirmed, and supported in ways that are unfortunately rare in healthcare settings. During my pregnancy, she consistently prioritized my needs, choices, and comfort over any agenda, and did not push me toward any particular protocol or outcome.
Lorrae is exactly the kind of practitioner our community needs. She combines professional skill with authentic compassion, and her nervous system regulation tools became invaluable during both labor and postpartum. She has a gift for creating calm in moments of intensity. Beyond her clinical skills, Lorrae embodies genuine care and integrity and I cannot recommend her highly enough to other parents seeking support.

Frequently asked questions
What is trauma-informed postpartum care? Do you work with birth trauma?
Yes. Trauma-informed postpartum care is a core pillar of my practice. If you are navigating the aftermath of a difficult or traumatic birth, dismissive provider, unexpected procedure, frightening complication, or a postpartum experience that feels disconnected or disorienting in your body, my background in somatic work allows me to hold space for that safely.
We work at a pace that respects your nervous system and prioritizes emotional safety and body connection, without rushing you to “heal” or gloss over what happened. I bring somatic and nervous system regulation tools to help you find steadiness through hard moments, and maintain a curated network of clinical mental health providers if your care requires additional medical or therapeutic support.
Postpartum doula vs. night nurse: What's the difference?
A night nurse focuses almost exclusively on the infant – feeding, changing, and putting the baby back to sleep so you can rest.
As a postpartum doula, my focus is the recovery and transition of the whole family system. While I also provide full newborn care and overnight visits so you can rest, I’m there to support your somatic recovery, mental health, relationship shifts, and the identity transition happening underneath it all.
What happens during a postpartum doula visit: daytime vs. overnight?
Every daytime visit starts with a check-in, we map out what your nervous system and household need that day. A visit might involve troubleshooting a feeding method, holding the baby while you take a long shower, prepping a nourishing meal, or doing nervous system regulation work to ease anxiety and overwhelm. There’s no standard checklist, and every visit shapes itself around you.
An overnight shift is designed for pure rest: I take over baby care entirely through the night so you can have deep sleep, only waking you if you are nursing, and handling everything else so you can wake up feeling more rested. I offer 10 hour overnights (instead of the usual 8) so you can comfortably shift gears, get a full sleep, and start your morning without feeling rushed.
How do I add a postpartum doula to my baby registry?
Postpartum care can be added directly to your registry through cash-funded platforms like BeHerVillage, Babylist, or similar registries. It’s an amazing way to let your community fund practical and structural support for your recovery, instead of or alongside traditional baby gear. See the full list of registries I'm already listed on at https://lorraejo.com/sliding-scale-postpartum-support/#registry
Do you offer sliding scale options or payment plans?
I offer payment plans and a sliding scale to honor a range of financial realities while also supporting myself as a care worker. You can view all my pricing on my sliding scale page here: https://lorraejo.com/sliding-scale-postpartum-support
