Unfortunately, that is not always the case, as it wasn’t for me during my birth. It was my and the experience of so many other women that has catapulted me into maternity area of healthcare in which I strive with all of who I am to help pregnant women, husbands, and other supporters of pregnant women (moms, grandmothers, sisters, brothers, etc.) become educated and empowered advocates while in the birthing space. I have over 19 years of nursing experience as a nurse and nurse practitioner and am a clinical expert in my field. I have always been someone who loves to take care of others. For family and friends, I was the one they’d call in an emergency, when someone is passing, when life decisions were being made. I went to college to become a nurse because I wanted to ensure I had a career where I could support people. God works in mysterious ways and I wasn’t able to apply for the nursing program at the college I went to. I had decided to get a degree in Health Systems Management and later, to do the accelerated nursing program. Plans don’t typically work on the way you dream and I found myself two kids later, 1 year too late, unable to apply for the accelerated nursing program. During this season, I had Andrew, our child that wasn’t birthed with the support of a doula, and I knew, being a doula was my answer. I’ve had felt unseen, unheard and unimportant when I was giving birth and I wanted to make sure that didn’t happen to others. I’m often get introduced as “Doula Jenn” and, I love it. I don’t just doula people through childbirth, I support through life. Parenthood is hard, marriages are hard, finding connection with friends is hard and I want to come alongside you in life. I’m an active member of the High Vibe Mom Tribe and I host virtual book clubs several times a year to support women through their marriages.

I am a DONA certified and Medi-Cal approved birth doula and mother of two. I believe birth is a natural physiological process, and a sacred passage: for mother, parents, baby, and family. I understand pregnancy and childbirth to be a deeply transformative time. As a Christian, I celebrate every baby born into the world as a unique and precious gift from God. My passion to become a birth doula grew from witnessing my nephew's birth and then having two boys of my own. Like many women, I was fearful of childbirth due to my limited understanding. Birth was rarely talked about by the women in my life and if it was, pain was typically the main subject. Watching my nephew’s birth showed me that birth can be beautiful. I believe that as women, our bodies were designed by God to birth well. While complications do happen, they are not the rule. Birth is a natural physiological process. It is hard work and can be uncomfortable or painful, but that is not all. Birth is a transformative, life changing experience no matter how it happens: unmedicated or medicated, vaginal or cesarean, home birth, birth center, or hospital.
