My goal as a therapist is help you feel healthier, more connected, and more joyful in your parenting and life in general. I don’t offer any guarentees or gimmicks. What I do have is experience working with people that have also struggled sometime between getting ready to start a family and the rest of their life, skills to help you feel more connected to your own body, compassion for what you’re going through, and determination to help you meet your personal goals. During the first appointment, I typically meet with clients between 60-75 minutes. This seems a bit long, but it allows me to learn the basics about you and hear more about the reason you are looking to come to therapy. If you’re ready, I’d love to hear more about your journey, whether that is the process of trying to create a family, pregnancy itself, your birth story, or absolutely anything else you want to share. If you aren’t ready to share with me some of the tougher pieces, I get it… we just met. No matter what you share, I’m honored. Everything we talk about in therapy is 100% confidential— with very few exceptions for safety. During the first session, I go over informed consent, policies, how often we should meet, and some other detail oriented information. At the end of the first session, I’ll leave it up to you to decide if we’re a good fit and if you want to make another appointment. If you need time to think, I totally get it, you’ve just shared a lot bout yourself and you need to decide if I’m the therapist for you. Typically I encourage clients to meet weekly for the first few sessions before deciding if they need less frequency. Most of my clients see me either once per week or every other week. If you’ve ever been in a doctor’s office while pregnant, you might have heard the phrase, “Yeah, that can happen” and then had the doctor just move on. It doesn’t feel very personal to hear that. When I hear about things that are bothering my clients, I start formulating what skills or knowledge I might have to help them best meet their goals. I certainly don’t assume that it is “just something that happens”. I work with every client to make sure I understand their goal for working with me, then we work together to figure out some of the smaller goals to help them get there. Don’t worry about coming to sessions with things that you think I need to here, you are enough.

All my sessions are virtual using a confidential HIPAA approved platform. At the beginning of the world going virtual, I’m not going to lie… I hated it. I hated it for weeks until one day when I woke up, I realized that I loved being virtually available to my clients. I not only was able to work with clients as effectively as in person, I was able to see some really great extra benefits! Sometimes in sessions, life needs to happen and that might look like making a sandwich, taking a walk, cleaning your room, or managing a toddler tantrum. I guess most of those things could happen in the office too, but it isn’t always as readily available. I’ve had a couple people ask about being in person and I usually give the same spiel: “I don’t know if or when I’ll have in person options. I love being virutal and think that it is just as helpful. If you’re struggling with it, let’s chat!”. Sessions are all different. Sometimes, I get to listen to clients’ stories, sometimes I’ll teach skills like deep breathing or mindfulness. In some sessions, I’ll encourage clients to move or go outside. Almost all of my sessions have some sort of animal involvement. I love getting to meet clients’ animals! I have a doggy door on my office door and my dogs (Baron and Penelope) and cat (Sadie) make frequent appearances. Something I’m excited to offer is virtual equine assisted therapy, where I am in a space with horses who help clients tell their story or process an experience. Sometimes the horses will even do mindfulness exercises with my clients.
