Peace! My name is Shekita. I am a CAAPA-trained, Community-Based Birth Doula registered with the State of Michigan’s Doula Initiative. My practice is rooted in trauma-informed care, recognizing that birth is both a transformative rite of passage and, at times, a deeply complex or even traumatic experience—even when everything goes according to plan. I see birth as crossing a threshold between worlds to welcome new life. My role is to walk alongside you as a steady, compassionate guide—moving at your pace, holding space for your emotions, and offering support for both the physical and emotional layers of your journey. In addition to labor and birth support, I specialize in: • Advocacy in hospital settings to help you feel seen, heard, and respected. • Breastfeeding and chestfeeding support to set you and your baby up for a nourishing start. • Community-based resources and postpartum care to help your family feel held beyond the birth itself. Beyond birthwork, I’m a proud plant-based mama of three. I love cooking, exploring the beauty of Detroit and the outdoors, and treasure-hunting while thrifting.

Peace! I’m Shekita, a CAAPA-trained, Community-Based Birth Doula registered with the State of Michigan’s Doula Initiative. I believe that birth is a powerful rite of passage—a threshold between worlds. It can be deeply transformative and, at times, overwhelming or even traumatic, even when things go “as planned.” My practice is rooted in trauma-informed care, which means I move at your pace, honor your choices, and hold space for the full emotional, physical, and spiritual layers of your journey. As your doula, my role is to walk alongside you with steadiness, compassion, and advocacy. I help families prepare for birth, navigate hospital systems, and create a supportive environment where your voice and preferences are centered. My services include: • Prenatal support: 3-6 visits to prepare for labor, discuss comfort measures, and explore your birth preferences. • Continuous labor support: at your chosen birth location (home, hospital, or birth center), offering emotional guidance, physical comfort, and advocacy. • Postpartum care: immediate support after birth and three to six follow-up visits to check in on healing, newborn feeding, and emotional well-being. • Feeding support: breastfeeding and chestfeeding guidance to help you and your baby get started with confidence. • Community-based resources: connecting you with trusted local care and support networks beyond your birth. I am especially passionate about supporting families in hospital settings, ensuring you feel respected, heard, and empowered throughout your experience. Outside of doula work, I’m a plant-based mama of three who loves cooking, exploring nature and Detroit, and thrifting for treasures. If you’re looking for a doula who will honor your story, walk with you through the challenges and joys of birth, and provide steady, compassionate support—you’re in the right place.
