Frequently asked questions

Is it too early to hire you?

It’s never too early to hire a doula! In fact, the earlier we start working together, the more time we have to build a strong relationship and prepare for your birthing journey. Early hiring allows us to thoroughly discuss your birth preferences, practice comfort measures, and ensure you feel confident and supported every step of the way. I’m here to support you from the very beginning of your pregnancy through to postpartum, so whenever you’re ready, I’m ready to join you on this beautiful journey!

What if I have a high risk pregnancy?

If you have a high-risk pregnancy, my role as a doula is to provide you with additional emotional, physical, and informational support tailored to your unique needs. While I do not provide medical care, I can work alongside your healthcare team to ensure you feel supported and informed throughout your pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period.

Do you offer payment plans or sliding scale fees?

I offer flexible payment options to accommodate different budgets, including payment plans and sliding scale fees. Payment plans allow you to spread out the cost of my services over several months, making it more manageable leading up to your due date. Additionally, I offer sliding scale fees based on individual financial circumstances, ensuring that my services are accessible to all families who seek support.

What if I have a C-section or other medical interventions?

If you require a C-section or other medical interventions, I will continue to provide emotional support, comfort measures, and advocacy to ensure you feel informed and empowered throughout the process. I will also assist in creating a calm and supportive environment in the operating room if allowed, or support your partner and communicate your preferences if I cannot accompany you. I am here to discuss any concerns you may have about interventions and help you understand your options. My goal remains to support you in having a positive and empowered birth experience, no matter the circumstances.

What happens if you are unavailable when I go into labor?

I understand the unpredictability of labor, and I take every precaution to ensure you receive continuous support, even if I am unavailable. As part of my doula practice, I have a network of trusted colleagues and backup doulas who I collaborate with. In the unlikely event that I am unavailable when you go into labor, I will arrange for one of these experienced backup doulas to provide support in my place. I work closely with them to ensure they are familiar with your birth plan and preferences, so you can feel confident and supported regardless of who is by your side. Rest assured, I am committed to being there for you whenever you need me, and I will do everything possible to ensure a smooth and positive birth experience for you and your family.

Can you help me create a birth plan?

Absolutely! A birth plan is a wonderful tool for communicating your desires with your healthcare team and ensuring your birth unfolds as smoothly as possible. Together, we can discuss various aspects of your ideal birth, such as pain management preferences, labor positions, interventions, and postpartum preferences. I’ll provide evidence-based information and guidance to help you make informed decisions that align with your values and goals. Whether you envision a natural birth, water birth, or have specific preferences regarding medical interventions, I’m here to support you in crafting a plan that feels right for you and advocating for your choices during labor.

What if I change my mind about my birth plan during labor?

It’s completely normal for birth plans to evolve during labor as circumstances can change. As your doula, my role is to support you in every decision you make, even if it means deviating from your original plan. If you find that your preferences shift during labor, I’m here to provide unbiased support and help you navigate your options. Whether you decide to try different pain management techniques, consider medical interventions, or make any other adjustments, I will support your choices and ensure you feel empowered and informed throughout the process. Our discussions leading up to your birth have prepared us to be flexible and responsive to your needs. Together, we’ll communicate your preferences to the medical team and adjust your birth plan accordingly, ensuring you have a positive and satisfying birth experience.
