I’ll meet with you twice to help you come up with your ideal birth plan, practice various comfort techniques, go over the birth and postpartum process, answer any questions you have, and get to know you. I’ll also be available via phone or email to check in and answer questions as they arise. As your due date approaches, I’ll be on call 24/7 for you from 38 weeks until delivery. If you happen to go into labor sooner, I’ll make every effort to be present at the delivery. If I’m not able to be there, I’ll call in my backup doula. When you go into labor, I will come to you (usually at your house) whenever you feel you need me. I will provide you with continuous support throughout your labor, which has been statistically proven to be super helpful for the laboring person! That support will be in the form of guided relaxation, applying pressure & heat to help you during contractions, suggestions for laboring and birthing positions, etc. I’ll also be coaching your partner on how to best help you. It’s a team effort . When we arrive at your birthing location, I’ll continue to stay with you, support you, and advocate for you. I’ll be with you until 1-2 hours after your baby is born, paying attention to your needs and helping you establish breastfeeding if you plan to do so. I’ll do 1 follow up visit with you between 1-4 weeks after the birth to check in on how you’re doing, answer any more questions that come up, and help you process your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.
