Julie was an absolute lifesaver for our family. She helped us set our baby up for sleep success and gave us such great breastfeeding advice. Julie's emotional support for mom was just what we needed, and her incredible care and attention as our baby grew and her needs changed were so reassuring. It felt like Julie became a part of our family during that time, and her presence made everything so much easier. We couldn’t have asked for a better postpartum doula and are so grateful for everything she did for us. Highly recommended!

Geeta is amazing and we loved having her as a post-partum doula. She was incredibly helpful, kind, and soothing during the daytime sessions and was an absolute life saver during the night sessions. She was amazing with our daughter (and our pets!), and really put us at ease when she was around. We felt so comfortable with her and knew our daughter was in good hands; we would absolutely recommend her to anyone considering a post-partum doula.

Hi! My name is Kristen and I am a registered dietitian with over a decade of experience and a certified lactation counselor. I have worked with countless clients helping them optimize their health prior to and during pregnancy, through their fourth trimester, and throughout breastfeeding as well. Over the years I have helped parents feel confident when feeding and nourishing themselves (and their little ones)! My method is surprisingly simple. I provide you with the latest scientific information, personalized for your unique needs, while working through all the external and internal influences that determine your food choices. I have a child of my own and experienced firsthand the ups and downs of pregnancy, as well as the difficulties many face when breastfeeding (and eventually starting solids!). Together, we work to achieve the goals you set out to accomplish, and I’m there cheering you on every step of the way!

Kristen was extremely helpful and supportive with providing information for nursing/ feeding infants with food allergies and sensitivities. She is very knowledgeable in the field and provided really useful tips and advice when it came to identifying the allergy, adapting diet while nursing, weaning to formula, as well as introducing solids. Highly recommend!!!

My name is Chamaine, I am Birthing Postpartum Doula with a deep commitment to supporting families through one of life’s most transformative experiences. I bring a nurturing presence and a calm, reassuring approach to help create a warm and comforting environment where parents feel truly supported and valued. My mission is to offer compassionate, knowledgeable care to families welcoming new life—guiding them through both the joyful moments and the inevitable challenges with patience, empathy, and expertise. In addition to my core practice, I have experience working in kosher kitchens and providing attentive, respectful care for infants following their bris, ensuring families feel confident and cared for during this sacred time.

Recent review

We had the pleasure of having Chamaine support and guide us for the first five weeks after our daughter was born via C-section. As first-time parents returning home after a difficult pregnancy followed by a brief NICU stay, we felt very overwhelmed and anxious about entering the new phase of our lives. Chamaine was like a ray of sunshine entering our home, providing us with an instant sense of warmth and comfort. She made a concerted effort to connect with and care for our entire family, including our newborn daughter, our (extremely needy) dog, and both of us parents. We’ve gleaned so much valuable knowledge from Chamaine that we will surely carry with us throughout parenthood. We couldn’t have asked for someone more nurturing, responsible, thoughtful, and attentive to care for our daughter, and it brought us so much peace to know that she was in such great hands each day and night. We were so lucky to have had Chamaine as our baby nurse, and none of us (dog included!) could have gotten through this challenging adjustment period without her. We appreciate her tremendously and she will always be a very special part of our family!

I have been helping to improve birth experiences in NYC and Westchester County for over a decade. This is my philosophy: You don’t become a different person when you become pregnant, begin labor, enter your birthing space, or bring your baby home for the first time. You’re still you, having an intense and transformative life experience. As your doula, I take the time to learn who you are and what will help you and your family to feel comfortable, informed, prepared, and ready to engage with your birth, both in advance and through the ever-changing moments of the birth process. I am passionate, flexible, and comforting, but also grounded, no-nonsense, and strongly evidence-based.

First of all, I must commend the Doula Project itself as an invaluable advocate. Sometimes the medical establishment views us within categories--especially when we are unusual as a result of identity--while the Doula Project listens to us as individuals in order to advocate for us to have the birth closest to our ideal within the context of medical wisdom. From the start I really appreciated Vicki's encouraging me to ask questions, to determine what the range of choices was, and to understand the benefits and risks of each decision. In my own case, I did decide because of advanced maternal age and medical advice to have an induced labor. Vicki was there to meet me at the hospital when I checked in, and she made sure that between her and her Doula Project partner on my case, I always had a doula to advocate for me from start to finish, through 27 hours of labor and beyond. Indeed, Vicki took the first photo of my baby, within minutes of her birth! From our first pre-birth meeting, Vicki correctly identified me as a physically fit person who would benefit from maintaining a physically active relationship to my labor and delivery. I brought a yoga mat and pilates ring to the hospital, and Vicki advocated for my being able to use them, even though my baby had to be monitored throughout the induced labor: we set up my yoga and pilates equipment right next to the bed, and Vicki advocated for periodic breaks from the monitor, especially in light of the fact that my baby was doing so well throughout. When I delivered my daughter, I surprised a number of the doctors, including one who thought a C-section would be a foregone conclusion, by delivering vaginally, after only about five minutes of pushing. I am very grateful to Vicki for her steadfast advocacy that led to such a positive birth experience for me and my daughter.

Hello! It is an honor to support you in your unique journey of parenthood. I am a mother of 6 and have been serving in the maternal health field for over 30 years. This is such a special time for families and my desire is to reduce stress and increase knowledge so that parents can flow confidently through this sacred life transition.

Anne was my doula for both of my kids and I credit her to a smooth pregnancy and delivery. Anne was available for all my questions, including when I got Covid while pregnant, and offered my guidance and even a recommendation that totally “cured” my symptoms (!). She also guided my husband and I in education on pregnancy, birth and parenting, provided helpful resources and advocated for us. Both my children were “sunny side up” during labor which made delivery challenging. I swear that if it wasn’t for her, I’d have had to have a c-section which I was hoping wouldn’t happen. Considering how difficult it was to push my kids out, if Anne wasn’t there to offer positioning tips, relaxation tips, or breathing tips, I really don’t believe I would have been able to push my babies out. I am so grateful to have met Anne and had her part of these incredible milestones!

I am a High Risk OBGYN, trained at Mount Sinai and Columbia. After doing my OBGYN residency, I chose to pursue fellowship because I never wanted to have to turn over my patients when things got complicated. After training, I moved out to the burbs and took on an attending position at Stamford Hospital, where I remained for 16 years. There, I saw patients of all demographics and loved my work. I invested a tremendous amount of time and energy in not just the physical well being of my patients, but their emotional well being as well, as that was so critical to the entire process. Often given the high risk nature of the situations, there was a huge need for attention to psychosocial aspects of care, and I figured out lots of extra ways to get people what they needed. I delivered so many of my friends’ children and cared for so many friends of friends over the years. I wanted every single one of my patients to feel that I cared for them the way I did the people closest to me. During those early years, I spent time in the NICU—academically, the neonatologists were colleagues who were often involved in complex planning for my in uterine patients, and they also were the ones who shared updates with me when I sat with the parents I had just cared for. I also am the mom of two high risk pregnancy NICU graduates, so I know how it feels to be a NICU parent firsthand. Over the last 10 years, the medical environment began to shift dramatically. Large hospital entities began to become the norm; enveloping smaller hospitals into parts of a bigger package started to become standard. Insurance companies began to have more power. OBGYNs began to experience changes in their salaries where “RVUs” or essentially units of work started form bigger parts of total incomes, and so volume of patients became more critical. Groups began to merge as well as physician burnout rose; the days of the solo practitioner waned, and having the chance to know the doctor delivering your baby well became increasingly challenging. At the same time, awareness started to finally be drawn to the crisis that is the state maternal mental health in an often fractured mental health care system. It seemed the perfect storm. Less time, more emotional toll for everyone, enhanced pre pregnancy and pregnancy testing, the pandemic, screening mandates for mood disorders in pregnancy with difficulty handling the answers to the questions that were asked—the system began to feel increasingly broken. I started to feel that I just wasn’t doing enough anymore for the patients not only that I was seeing, but especially for the ones I was not—the friends of friends, the sisters, the cousins, the women themselves—who I would gladly triage a phone call from on my own who were lost or scared or didn't understand what was going on. The pandemic and an unexpected surgery forced my hand-I left my position and took a long, hard look at what the landscape looked like. I thought about another position at another hospital—but again, I felt the system needed to be directly addressed with knowledge from the inside out. Patients needed to be empowered to get the information they needed, to feel supported when they were scared, to stop using Google, to have help finding a therapist—and none of this was happening on a large scale. I had spoken with so many amazing providers over the years—in holistic medicine, integrative medicine, therapeutic communities—that I had resources to help patients build a tool box. And I spoke the language—I could be way more effective than Google using over 20 years of outcomes to guide my explanations and support. And so the idea of Blue Moon Perinatal was born. I realized what women needed was an educator and an advocate- part doctor, part therapist, part friend, part coach—to help guide them through their struggles wherever they were—trying to conceive, struggling through IVF or miscarriage, pregnant with a preexisting medical or psychological issue, after a diagnosis of preterm labor, preeclampsia, a scary ultrasound diagnosis, or with postpartum depression or anxiety. Bringing awareness to the need for these services, I feel, can truly begin to address what’s missing. Blue Moon Perinatal offers women the opportunity to bring their struggles to me. One session, two, through a chunk of time due to a diagnosis or to have an advocate along the entire journey through the end of the 4th trimester—I can be here for you. I see clients on a virtual platform that can be booked through my website. Sessions are typically an hour, but for clients who want to enlist me for more than a session or two, I can break up the time as needed so you understand I’m always there for you. I will typically be able to accommodate a session within 24-48 hours. I truly believe that this new model eventually will prove to large conglomerations to be a patient satisfier and help OBGYN providers provide more streamlined care, as their patients will have knowledge and understand what they need to ask and why. I want to bring my services to as many moms feeling lost, overwhelmed, scared or just disempowered in this system as possible. Because I offer a new service, the word needs to get out. I want to be found by women for women. And I’m here. To translate, educate, make plans and provide support, and help you figure out what you need to feel strong.

MaternityWise Institute

24 years of experience

MaternityWise has been through an evolution since it's inception back in 2002. What began as a private doula practice quickly became a training opportunity for those who sought out a more balanced approach to maternity care support than what was available, which at the time were only two other organizations specifically training doulas. The discrepancies between what was available to women (either very pro-conventional medicine, or very anti-conventional medicine) led to the development of a comprehensive, standardized curriculum that could be moulded and used internationally. MaternityWise is unique in that we are the only Internationally recognized organization that holds such a standard. Our curriculum is based on whole-earth practices and "pure information". What this means is that while you will learn what is practiced locally in your country and community, you will also learn what the rest of the world is doing and how to incorporate that wisdom to challenge the status quo and bring improvements to maternity care everywhere. "Pure Information" is a term we use to categorize the knowledge we share as an organization. It is pure, because no one profits from this information. We use intuitive wisdom blended with logic where science fails to provide answers. It is our favorite thing when science "proves" what we already know in our hearts to be true, as women and as mothers. In 2017, MaternityWise International was re-born as The MaternityWise Institute. We remain an international, board-certifying organization providing education and credentials for labor and postpartum doulas as well as lactation support people. This is the year we also introduced the MaternityWise Educator program and the first of it's kind EpiDoula Program, training labor support companions how to decrease cesareans in mothers who have an epidural. As MaternityWise Institute International grows, it continues this new chapter of excellence, with diverse leadership, continued educational enhancement and a premier mentoring program. What we have learned from the past and from participating in other programs around the globe, we are using to meet the real needs of our students so that MWI can become a standard to follow by all maternal health education programs out there! Our premier programs, and forward momentum, developing unique education to meet the ever-changing needs of the birthing family sets us apart. We invite you to join with us to change the birthing world!

Booking Donnette’s postpartum doula services is one of the best decisions we have made as parents to our baby. Donnette is incredibly knowledgeable and has a calm, friendly presence that was simply a pleasure to have in our home. She helped us immensely in the first weeks of our baby’s life with caring for him day and night, answering all of our questions, creating schedules, setting up the many gadgets a baby requires and much, much more. Donnette helped us feel confident in our new role as parents and empowered us to trust our intuition. I must add that she was also so lovely with our rambunctious dog! We enjoyed our time with Donnette so much that we have even asked for some additional hours after her time with us completed. We highly recommend Donnette for her postpartum doula services and hope to work with her again for our next baby!
