I plan to give birth in a birthing center. Open to exploring birthing options- ie, medicated vs unmedicated, water births, etc. Unsure what my budget should look like.

I’m considering a home Birth but if not then will deliver at Mobap. This is my third baby never had complications before and so far have had an easy pregnancy like my other two. I’m not sure how much a midwife runs. Trying to keep as natural at possible for birth but I know things can change in the blink of an eye. I have gone as long as I could without epidurals in the past but didn’t have anyone with me to help/suggest other things for my partner and I to do to help with pain so ended up with epidurals. (Also always have gone into labor late at night so early morning epidurals made for nice naps.

My preferred birth method is a Trial of Labor after 2 Cesarean Sections. I had a very difficult time with my last elective c-section. I had a spinal fluid leak, required several medications and a blood patch, and mentally struggled with coping. I thought I was okay with another c-section, however, I ended up deeply regretting following through. I did have signs of labor approaching (contractions, losing mucus plug), but had a c-section at exactly 40 weeks. I would be okay with another c section if medically necessary. If the facility allows, I’d like to then do a maternal-assisted cesarean section.

Must be a Certified Midwife. I am 26 years old, healthy, and have a healthy pregnancy thus far. After birth I will plan to breastfeed. I have a pretty clear idea of how to do this, but may need help with production and such after birth. We are planning on doing an unmedicated birth at the Barns Jewish Hospital here in St. Louis. I would have preferred to go the birth center route, but all the centers were booked up so we are making the hospital setting work! We learned through the hospital that we are permitted to incorporate midwives in our birth, but their function would be blunted by the hospitals’ requirements - so they would serve more as a knowledgeable support person. Our insurance covers midwifery services so as long as a midwife is in network (Cigna) our budget is unlimited!
