I will be using my UHC Healthcare HMO plan to cover the doula cost. I plan to birth at Scripps Encinitas. Planning on a medicated vaginal birth. Want delayed cord clamping.

We are planning on a home birth for our first child this August. We would like to use our insurance to cover the cost of a doula, we currently have a Blue Shield HMO plan. We would like this birth to be as positive and as natural as possible with little to no intervention, but understand hospital transfers do happen and that’s perfectly ok. I would really like a doula to help guide me and encourage/empower me to believe in my body’s natural ability to give birth at home. Attending the birth will be two midwives, my husband and my mom, and possibly a doula!

This is my 3rd baby and the first time I was hoping to work with a birth/postpartum doula. I have two boys and another on the way. I am planning a hospital birth and am hoping for an advocate I am comfortable with to be there as a support person along the way and after having our baby. I plan to give birth at Scripps Encinitas. From my understanding, tricare select covers labor doulas, so I am not entirely sure. I am very against medical interventions in labor. (No pitocin, epidural, episiotomy, etc.) I am looking for someone who is going to medically advocate for me to allow myself to be present in labor and not feel like I am having to fight off people trying to intervene when unnecessary. I have Tricare West Select.
