Hi Kaitlin, I was given your name by a lovely young woman named Lauren from the birthing center in Bloomington for my daughter who is 24 years old who would like to have a lovely natural birth experience. This is her first baby and I will be her birthing partner, as the father is not involved at all. However, we just learned that things are becoming somewhat complicated, because she had a TBI a year and a half ago where a permanent shunt was put in. And so, the midwife through the group in Peru says she has no experience with that at all, but is saying that they will most likely consider her to be high risk because of it, even though from what I have been reading, cerebral shunts are, “considered low risk and complications are uncommon”. Regardless, we are being advised that she will most likely be advised to deliver in a hospital in case something goes wrong, which is totally fine and really does gives us a level of peace in case something does go wrong; except, we are already being “prepared” that OFS in Peoria will probably recommend a Cesarean, “just to be on the safe side, because of the pressure that could build up in her head from all that pushing”. However, from what we’ve been learning about waiting to push until the fetal ejection reflex actually happens, instead of being told to start pushing as soon as she reaches 10 cm, that there would not be near the same level of exertion in pushing or duration, as there would be by being told to push before then. So, that is the ultimate tact we would like to take in order to avoid a cesarean, as well as other techniques in order ti avoid an epidural and the cascading subsequent interventions, as a result. But, trying to find a provider, or shockingly, even a midwife who is a fellow believer as it relates to going totally natural, as opposed to the use of drugs, especially an epidural, is proving to be rather challenging. But, after talking with Lauren we have decided to avoid OFS Saint Francis in Peoria, as I was told that they will most likely push Cesarean because they, “like to be safe”, and recommends using a midwife named Sarah Schumaker who works through Advanced Women’s Health Care, and go to Carle BroMenn Medical Center for the birth, as she believes that they will be most aligned with our goals; and, OSF Saint Joseph in Bloomington if something goes really wrong and is medically necessary. They are about an hour and 15 mins. away from us, but we would be willing to go that far if we cannot find a midwife around here, and a hospital who will be compatible with what we are wanting to do. So, wondering if maybe have any recommendations. Also, we need a very strong advocate who is like-minded with our goal of a natural birth, who will prepare her so she has no fear going into the birthing process, as well as coaching her throughout it, making the process manageable and empowering, so that any pain meds, especially an epidural will not even be offered to her by any of the nursing staff or midwife, let alone pushed for. We will also need a very strong guardian at the door who will put her foot down to any unnecessary interruptions or interventions by the nursing staff in order to ensure that she will be able to birth uninterrupted in a dark, warm, quiet, peaceful place even in a hospital setting, and allowing her to labor in whatever position she desires…especially, because my daughter is extremely susceptible to being bullied by the medical community, and therefore needs a very strong advocate besides me. Does it sound like we would be compatible with your own philosophy? |

Hello! I plan on giving birth in a hospital. I would love to have a doula for extra support for my husband and I. Estimated budget is $1200, knowing that is the typical price range. We are flexible. Current birth plan includes: no pitocin, delayed cord clamping until pulsing stops, immediate skin to skin, a voice c-section unless medically necessary, intermittent fetal monitoring, breastfeeding immediately, would like access to snacks during birth, access to tub early stages, would like to walk and move around, no birthing in back. trying naturally but open to epidural depending on how my body is doing and pain level. Currently doing a Christian Hypnobirthing practices, took a birthing class at Statera and will be taking a lactation class in April. |

I plan on giving birth at OSF (St. Joseph) hospital in Bloomington, IL. I currently live in oreana, IL. I'm trying to see how much a doula is or if it's covered by Illinois Medicaid. I haven't finished my birth plan but I atleast plan on utilizing a ball, with nitrous and minimal monitoring/intervention. Once im about 6-7 cm give or take, id like to have an epidural possibly with delayed cord clamping and immediate skin to skin. |

I was wondering if you travel outside of the Chicagoland area? I’m having a really hard time finding a birth photographer. I wasn’t really looking for a doula but if it was part of a good package I would consider it. I also saw you accept insurance I was wondering more about that if you do take people outside the Chicago area. |
