Comfort: Request IV lines, blood pressure cuffs, and EKG leads be placed on your non-dominant arm to allow for easier holding of the baby. Visualization: Ask for a clear drape (or to have the mirror/screen lowered) to see the baby being born. During the Birth Communication: Ask the staff to explain what is happening, and consider requesting they tell you when they are ready to begin. Skin-to-Skin: Request immediate skin-to-skin contact in the operating room (OR) if no medical issues arise.
