✨ Hi friends! I’m Jess (she/her) — a queer birth & postpartum doula based in the Bay Area. I grew up around birth and babies (shoutout to my nurse mom!) and fell in love with supporting new parents early on. After seeing so many of my friends navigate birth and postpartum without the support they deserved and needed, I knew this was the work I was meant to do. I offer care that’s supportive, inclusive, and centered on you—your values, your vision, and your unique journey into parenthood. If you’re pregnant, postpartum, or just dreaming about building your family someday, I’d love to support you. 💛

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and I am the middle child to two brothers. I grew up in a tight-knit family filled with mostly women so pregnancy was around me my whole life. I was always there when family members came home helping care for them and the baby in whatever I could. I started out as a pre-school teacher and a special education teacher’s assistant, both roles I enjoyed. I did my first official doula training in 2018 and immediately knew I had found my place. Learning about the birth disparities black women face and personal experience from my own birth made my drive to help women of color come alive. I have a special interest in breastfeeding as well and I hope I can help more women and people have successful breastfeeding journeys. As an aspiring midwife and I know that being a doula will help me in my journey there. I became a birthworker because I want to help other birthing women and peoples experience power in their birth and postpartum time. When I had my daughter I had some of my power taken away from me and I want to help other birthing women and people know their rights so that can never happen. I chose this path because I want to make sure they feel loved, protected, well informed, and heard. I see it as my responsibility to my community to be of service and purposeful in the care I provide.

My partner and I decided to hire a doula because we really wanted that emotional and physical support. That being our first pregnancy, we had many questions and concerns. So after extensive research we came across Sloan, she was so professional. The amount of information she provided at our first meeting set her apart and became the deciding factor to hiring her. She just made us feel so comfortable. She was with us at the time of labor and leading up to it, explaining how the birth would go and what to expect. Unfortunately, I had some complications; Sloan was there guiding us, holding my hand and offering suggestions. It's what kept us so calm and pushing forward. She was so encouraging and gentle. Just a wonderful soul! She even assisted with getting my son to latch on for a feeding when the nurse was busy. I am currently pregnant and did not hesitate to rehire Sloan. I know with her methods and expertise that I'm in good hands. Going into an unknown situation, she just made the entire experience so positive. Would definitely recommend Sloan for before, during and after labor!

I also provide help around the home whether that be cooking, cleaning or any light household chores. In terms of my achievements, I have had the privilege of helping numerous families navigate the wonderful yet challenging journey of welcoming a new baby into their lives. Through my work as a Postpartum Doula and Newborn Care Specialist. I have been able to support new mothers in their physical and emotional recovery while providing essential care for their newborns. By implementing effective sleep and feeding routines, I have helped establish a sense of calm and stability during the critical postpartum period.

Breanna Gay was an amazing postpartum doula for our newborn baby boy Dekari from June 2023 to August 2023. She was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us through our first couple of months at home. Any questions we had, she was able to answer. As nervous first-time parents, we had so many questions, but she made us feel much more comfortable knowing that she was super experienced, and it showed! From the beginning, she was there to support us, even before our baby was born. We were able to text her all of our questions, and she replied quickly. She came in and helped us organize our nursery and set up all our gadgets. When our baby came home, she was there the first night, supporting us through breastfeeding and our long nights. She even helped tidy up the house and made me a little midnight snack because Iwas up all night. Breanna is such a joy to have, and I would recommend her to any family looking for support.

Jala did an exceptional job at emotionally supporting me as a first time mom. She did an amazing job at caring for my newborn while I got rest. She was great when it came to helping me prepare before, during and after labor. She is such a kind soul and so gentle. I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else helping me in my journey. My house was always so clean when Jala was helping out too! I loved it. She also always light a nice candle or burned sage (which was one of my requests) in the house. She is definitely apart of the family!

My experience was working with Jay as my postpartum doula after the birth of my third baby. I had never worked with a doula before, and after my previous postpartum experiences, I now know how invaluable that kind of support truly is. After my third child was born, I thought I had everything under control, but the postpartum period still brought challenges I wasn’t fully prepared for. She provided such a calm, knowledgeable presence that made all the difference. From helping me establish a breastfeeding routine to offering emotional support when I felt overwhelmed, she was the anchor I didn’t realize I needed. Unlike my previous postpartum experiences, this time I didn’t feel isolated or unsure. She checked in on me regularly, made sure I was taking care of myself, and offered practical tips for balancing my recovery while caring for my newborn and older children. What really stood out was her genuine care for me as a whole person, not just as a mother or caregiver. She ensured I had moments to rest and recharge, which was something I struggled with before. Her support was more than just physical help i was emotional, mental, and holistic. I felt heard, cared for, and reassured every step of the way. I can honestly say that having her as part of my postpartum journey made this time completely different from my past experiences, and I couldn’t recommend her more highly.
