Ali Carr is a birth doula based on the westside of Los Angeles and a mama of 3 daughters. She supports families from early pregnancy through birth, in early postpartum and into motherhood. Rooted in both ancient wisdom and science, her work helps parents unearth their inner knowing and feel informed by evidence, so they can navigate birth and parenthood from a place of alignment and confidence. With reverence for birth as a rite-of-passage, Ali brings a slow, nurturing approach so her clients feel held in the sacredness of this special time, while also empowered in their capabilities and knowledge. Ali trained as an apprentice under award-winning childbirth educator, Britta Bushnell, author of Transformed by Birth. She works at all hospitals, birth centers and home births in Greater Los Angeles, but frequently work at UCLA Santa Monica and UCLA Westwood, Cedars-Sinai, all Kaiser Hospitals, and St. John’s in Santa Monica.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience with Ali. From the very beginning of my pregnancy, she was an incredible source of support, guidance, and reassurance. She always offered thoughtful advice and helped us understand our options, while never making us feel like there was a “right” way to do things. She respected our choices and allowed us to lead the way throughout the entire process. What stood out most to me was how genuinely she listened. I always felt heard, supported, and completely free of judgment. Pregnancy and birth can bring so many emotions and stressful moments, and she has such a calm, reassuring presence. She communicates clearly and effectively, even when things feel overwhelming, and always seems to know when to offer guidance and when simply to be there and listen. She was consistently available when we needed her, and knowing we had someone so caring, knowledgeable, and dependable in our corner gave me tremendous peace of mind. Her support made such a meaningful difference throughout my pregnancy and birth experience. I am incredibly grateful that she was part of this journey with us and would wholeheartedly recommend her to any expecting mother or family looking for someone who will truly listen, support, advocate, and walk alongside them every step of the way. Five stars doesn’t feel like enough!

Working with Curtrelle made my birthing experience so much better than I could’ve imagined. As a first time mom, I was overwhelmed with the amount of information I was receiving from doctors, relatives and my social media. Curtrelle was instrumental in keeping both my partner and I calm, informed, and hopeful throughout the entire birthing process. Her techniques, presence and overall explanation of the process beforehand during and after were incredibly helpful for two new parents who felt lost in a sea of information. We truly feel she was the reason we had such a great birthing experience and we loved her demeanor not just with us, but with the people we decided to include in the process as well. I highly recommend anyone looking for a doula that is informed, calming, reassuring, and overall great person to work with Curtrelle.

I am a first time single mom and was worried about taking care of my daughter Emma, alone and recovering from birth at the same time. Violet helped me with both night and day shifts. Violets day shifts depended on my needs for the day. Some days she was just happy to make me lunch and do laundry for me and Emma. Some days I needed some time alone and she was there to do tummy time with Emma, put her down for naps, and sing to her. When she was on nights she was there to burp, change, and settle the baby down again after I breast fed her so I was able to sleep a little more. She always had cleaned any bottles she would use by the morning and would make us both coffee before I got up. She even gave me a slight discount knowing I didn't have a two income household witch helped me a lot in the long run.
