Welcome to Transcend With Birth. My name is Dessirá and I am a mother, daughter and ocean lover who has always had a deep love for connection and supporting others in intimate spaces. As a certified Birth and Postpartum Doula and Intimacy Coach, I specialize in providing personalized support and guidance for mothers and families throughout the transitions of pre-conception, birth, and the first 40 days of the postpartum journey. My mission is to create a restful, nourishing space where mothers can connect back to their womb wisdom and intuition, finding confidence and empowerment through embodiment. I have more than 15 years of experience providing high-quality newborn care for families across the Sacramento area. My career began as a professional nanny and house manager, and has evolved into serving as a dedicated advocate for women through my work as a doula. Beyond direct care, I consult with families to create individualized whole care plans that support the healthy growth of the infant, the well-being of the family, and the overall harmony of the household. I have supported dozens of families through their most intimate transitions, helping them navigate everything from birth preferences to early parenthood. I hold a degree in Psychology, which deeply informs my approach to child development and family dynamics. I have a special interest in creating opportunities for children of all ages to grow, learn, and develop, and my extensive training allows me to support families in a way that truly allows them to flourish from birth onwards. My education and background in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) have provided me with unique tools to mentor parents and facilitate therapeutic communication and conflict resolution within the home. As a specialist in overnight care, I offer a "juicy cocoon of love and compassion" for families needing rest and recovery. During overnight shifts, I feed, comfort, and nourish the baby while providing light housekeeping to prepare the home for the new day, allowing parents to achieve optimal rest. I am a compassionate communicator focused on creating a connected team with the families I work with. My goal is to grow with your family, helping you find your desired rhythm so you can thrive in your parenting journey with ease, grace, and joy. I look forward to meeting you! Professional Highlights 15+ years of successful service experience supporting families in Sacramento and Los Angeles. Provisional Birth and Postpartum Doula Certifications. There are people who do a job, and then there are people who change your life. Dessira is the latter. She entered our lives when our son was born premature and jaundiced. Dessira helped our baby gain weight and, at the same time, provided calm encouragement that helped us become confident parents. That gift is priceless, and I will never forget it. She returned to us when our son was two and stayed until he was six. During those years, she helped us build a nutrition and activity plan. This kept him energized, curious, and challenged--without empty calories or screens. The positive effects of this plan are too many to list here, but the best was his dramatically improved sleep schedule. My son had a mildly rocky transition from nursery school to a TK/K mix to a TK-only class. At the time, I worked 60-70-hour workweeks and cannot overstate the comfort of knowing my son was safe, stimulated, and thriving with Dessira during the day. At night, I was able to be fully present with my son because Dessira handled housework and other distractions that would have taken away from that precious time. She did this without being asked. I'm grateful to her because if she hadn't, I wouldn't have thought of it. Dessira is exceptional with infants and children of all ages. She is calm under pressure because she has a deep well of knowledge and experience to draw from. She prioritizes safety -- the safety of their bodies, of course, and also their minds and hearts. She values imagination and curiosity, and she brings genuine warmth, humor, and fun to every day. Dessira is unique in that she cares for the whole family as a single ecosystem, where the health of all depends on the health of each. She is a wonderful listener, and as she learns what matters to you -- as parents, as people -- she reflects that back to you with encouragement and practical creativity. When I said, "Well, ideally we'd do this, but that's probably unrealistic," her response was, "Maybe so -- but let's talk about it for a minute, just to see." Most of the time, with a bit of creativity and brainstorming, we made it happen. When we didn't, I felt supported and seen, which I found to be equally valuable. It makes a big difference in my life when a smart, energetic person is on my team. I'm better at my job, I'm a better partner, and I'm a better mom. If you are lucky enough to get Dessira in your corner, I am genuinely happy for you and your family to have the kind of support that will enrich your lives.

My journey into the world of doula work is deeply rooted in my personal experiences and commitment to serving marginalized communities. As a Black Jamaican queer woman who has navigated the complexities of raising a family and building a career in diverse environments, I have come to understand the profound impact of culturally competent and empathetic support during the transformative experiences of reproductive care and justice framework, childbirth, lactation, postpartum, newborn care, bereavement and grief support. I began my career as a full-spectrum doula inspired by my own birthing challenges and experiences, I am a mother of 4 (twin daughter 33 and sons 25 and 22), however, what struck me harder than my own challenges, were the facts, stories, challenges and barriers that black mothers/birthers and their infants were experiencing. The Black maternal/prenatal and infant mortality rate in America is alarming and according to the CDC, “Black women in the United States are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women. In 2022, the maternal mortality rate for Black women/birthers was 49.5 deaths per 100,000 live births, which is higher than the rates for White (19.0), Hispanic (16.9), and Asian (13.2) women/birthers. Some factors that contribute to these disparities include: Variation in quality healthcare, Underlying chronic conditions, Structural racism, Implicit bias, and lack of access to paid parental leave.” I wanted to be part of the solution, I began by becoming a newborn care specialist and now I've expanded my services to include full-spectrum doula, radical reproductive justice advocacy, death, grief, end-of-life doula and future IBCLC and midwife. Beginning with self, propelled me into what had been calling me for decades. Here I am, more ready than ever to expand my career and serve my community. Helping others understand the unique challenges black birthers face, is one of my goals, understanding the problems is the first step in working towards the solution. The realization I found is that many Black families do not receive the support they need to thrive. These realizations propelled me into expanding my career as a newborn care specialist to include full-spectrum doula, lactation educator, death and end-of-life doula and currently working towards becoming a childbirth educator, IBCLC and eventually a midwife. My work has always been centered around advocacy for BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ communities, ensuring that all families, regardless of their background, receive the compassionate and personalized care they deserve. In my practice I center black and brown folks and prioritize a holistic approach that encompasses not only the physical aspects of reproductive health care but also the emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of my clients, their partners and their family members. I believe that they all deserve to feel empowered, respected, and supported throughout the birthing person's journey and other reproductive health care scenarios. This belief drives me to provide comprehensive care that includes prenatal visits, continuous labor support, immediate postpartum lactation support, postpartum visits, newborn care and when needed abortion support, bereavement and grief support. My goal is to create a safer and nurturing environment where my clients, their partners, and family members, can feel heard, valued, and confident in the birthing person’s birth choices and beyond. Whatever their reproductive heath care needs may be. One of the core tenets of my philosophy is the importance of community and connection. I actively engage with support groups, and I'm looking forward to connecting with clinics, hospitals, community and faith-based organizations, and through social media, to support and advocate for reproductive health care rights and justice, recruiting clients and building a network of support. I understand that addressing the disproportionately high rates of Black/African American infant and maternal/prenatal/infant mortality rates in this country requires a collective effort. By fostering strong relationships within communities, I aim to raise awareness of the value of Black doula support and ensure that more Black families have access to these vital services. I am committed to continuous learning and professional development. Attending trainings on lactation, trauma-informed care, full spectrum doula support, newborn care, lactation education, bereavement and grief support, billing and including sliding scales to increase accessibility, and data collection allows me to provide the highest standard of care and to be inclusive to my clients and my community. Moreover, I value the opportunity to present my work and facilitate client support groups, as these activities help to amplify the voices of Black families and promote best practices and cultural traditions, within the doula community. What matters most to me when supporting clients and their families is their autonomy and dignity. EVERY birthing person should have the RIGHT to make informed decisions about their care, and it is my role to provide them with the information, resources, and emotional support they need to do so. I strive to be a compassionate advocate, a reliable partner, and a source of strength for my clients, their families and the communities I serve, by helping them navigate their unique paths to parenthood, reproductive health care, midlife care and through death/dying/end-of-life care, bereavement, and grief, with confidence and grace and to provide support to their folks and to communities in which they live.

Elsy is an amazing force of nature! We found her to help us care for our three week old baby girl and help us with the "night shift" and we found such an experienced and knowledgeable advocate for helping us develop our baby's healthy schedule and amazing growth! So much energy goes into the 24/7/ 2 hour cycle for the first few months of the babys life. With proactive schedules and plenty of first-hand information and experience with "the little peanuts", Elsy has been a true blessing to my wife and our family! When she had to honor another commitment to another family after a few weeks, her recommended replacement, Mirna. has been an equally bright star on the night shift in our home. I highly recommend her to any family lucky enough to find her and anyone she recommends! Thank you Elsy!

My family has been lucky enough to partner with AnneLisa during our postpartum journey. She is self proclaimed holistic and that term is just right. At night time, AnneLisa comes to your house and spends time checking in with the Mom and finding out any information about baby. She writes notes about her night with baby and shares with both parents. She ends her service by making a very large breakfast (her oatmeal lasted me at least 3 servings each time). During the daytime, she checks in on Mom again, and that can come as talking, French hair braiding or massage. She can also teach you newborn skills like how to take baby out for a walk, or how to bathe baby. On top of all this, AnneLisa partners with a wonderful woman in the insurance industry who can help you check to see what is covered and even help try and get reimbursements. If you’re looking for a doula, while I can only attest to her postpartum skills, I’m sure she’s amazing as a birth doula as well. I highly recommend working with AnneLisa.

I’ve known Becca for over 15 years, and she is truly one of the most thoughtful and caring people I know. She’s also a natural with kids. This past year I had my first baby, and she has been such a supportive presence throughout my whole journey. She understands the transformative nature of this season and always asks insightful and compassionate questions that make you feel seen and heard. She is also incredibly loving with my baby and naturally jumps in to help without me even needing to ask. Becca is hardworking, trustworthy, intuitive, and kind. As a new mom, I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for warm, compassionate postpartum support.

To me the most important thing about this work is the human touch. Having grown up attending births in my family, I am a supportive, intuitive experienced doula who centers the whole family. You are the parent, not the patient to me. I focus on helping you move your body in ways that will help bring the baby down, using my hands, heart, and breath work at the center of my care. I have experience with many community births at home and in birthing centers (Simi Valley Birth Center and the Brooklyn Birthing Center), as well was with many hospital births in Los Angeles, Ventura, New York City, and Seattle. I am passionate about giving normal, humanizing service and advocacy to disabled and high risk parents to center your voice, needs, and access from start to finish. In order to provide a stronger service within the disability community, I work with a partner or group.

Working with Alison was a wonderful experience. From the beginning moments of telling her about my pregnancy through to the post natal experience, she showed her strong intuitive skills, used her sense of humor and was able to guide us through this wondrous process. Alison was especially helpful at offering clarity around my choices in labor and especially a strong supporter when I felt pressure from my team of doctors to take the epidural. Alison reminded me that I had a choice and that freed me to make the right decision for me. Alison was also adept at councelling my husband and I throughout our pre labor experience around the myriad of changes, emotions, wonders and fear that having a child brought up for us. She always provided a safe environment for us that was healing, engaging and fun. Alison used her intuition to guide us in working together as a couple and was able to read exactly what we needed individually and together. Alison used her own weatlth of knowledge from various areas in her life to support us and remind us of the constant flow that occurs in labor and in child rearing. This helped me to trust in the process; something I am not always great at! Her kindness and ability to be present and focused was an immense help to me in the delivery room. From talking a family member away from the delivery room, to navigating doctors, to coaching my husband to helping me and giving me space when needed was amazing. I happily and whole heartedly recommend Alsion to work with as a birthing partner and aly on the birth journey.

Hello Expecting Parents! My name is Nia Symone, and I am a certified full-spectrum doula. I specialize in holistic wellness and movement as a certified Pilates Instructor, herbalist, and certified in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am a dedicated doula committed to helping your baby arrive earthside safe and sound. As The Auntie Doula, mama and baby are my main priorities.

Recent review

Nia started as my pilates instructor and in a short time she came on as my delivery doula. Over the past 9 months she has become one of my closest friends here in Los Angeles. I really loved how Nia emphasized my needs when everyone else was so fixated on the baby. She always made a point to check in on me and see how I was doing during the process. Hearing her voice in the delivery room say, "Come on Xiomara push!" reminded me of our Pilates sessions together. She gave me the encouragement I needed to have a successful vaginal delivery. My absolute favorite aspect of Nia's services were her postpartum sessions. We did lots of breath work, stretching, meditation and light mat pilates workouts with my newborn baby in my arms. It really helped with my postpartum anxiety and most of all she was very supportive as I struggled with postpartum depression. She is a wonderful soul, and has an incredibly calming energy about her. I find her to be deeply connected with her roots which contributes to her soothing and grounding persona. You don't just get a doula with Nia, you get a new best friend. My favorite moments now are seeing her be a sweet Auntie to my daughter.
