About me

Hello! My name is Shala and I’m a birth and postpartum doula in Houston, TX. I run my business and center my birth philosophy on three main principles: empathy, autonomy, and authenticity. Every Well Rooted Doula client has the right to self determination and is supported in creating the birth that they see fit. I believe in the body’s innate ability to birth and encourage clients to listen to and trust the signals their body sends them before, during, and after birth. Additionally, I believe that it’s my duty to help clients advocate for their birthing visions, wherever and however they take place. Clients are welcomed and celebrated regardless of race, socioeconomic status, nationality, sexuality, religion, or gender identity, etc. I want to support you in having a happy and joyful birth and postpartum period! To do so, I employ active listening, critical thinking, and work to create opportunities for feedback.

I offer support during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. Additionally, I also offer appointment companion services where I can attend medical appointments with you.

Full Spectrum Package
This package is perfect for clients looking for birth birth and postpartum support. It includes: - 2 prenatal appointments (to include birth plan help and comfort measures) - On-call doula services during labor and birth - Unlimited phone, email, and text support - In-home check up 24-72 hours after birth (not to exceed 1 hour) - 8 hours worth of in-home postpartum visits (can be scheduled in two 4 hour increments or one 8 hour increment) - Referrals to other specialists as needed

Labor Package
This is my offering for clients looking only for pregnancy and birth support. It includes: - 2 prenatal appointments (to include birth plan help and comfort measures) - On-call doula services during labor and birth - Unlimited phone, email, and text correspondence - In-home check up 24-72 hours after birth (not to exceed 1 hour) - Referrals to other specialists as needed

Postpartum Package
This is a great option for clients looking for a fixed amount of postpartum support! It includes: - 32 hours of postpartum support up to 3 months after the birth of your baby - Sessions can be reserved in 4 or 8 hour increments - Tasks include but are not limited to: light cleaning, caring for baby while the parent(s) rests (showers, sleep, etc.), light meal preparation, emotional support, bottle preparation + cleaning, help with additional children*, help with running errands* - Referrals to other specialists as needed

Shala is fantastic! She has helped me complete a birthing plan and questions to ask my provider. She very calming and knowledgeable.
