This is my 3rd baby and the first time I was hoping to work with a birth/postpartum doula. I have two boys and another on the way. I am planning a hospital birth and am hoping for an advocate I am comfortable with to be there as a support person along the way and after having our baby. I’m not sure which hospital out of loma linda, rancho, or Kaiser riverside so I’d like help with that decision as well. I have Kaiser that covers doula services so I’m not sure how to go about pay for that or how it works but want to learn more. I’m a also a first time mom and didn’t even know people went into labor with a “plan” so any information and guidance on what would be best as a black mom for maternal healthcare and for a black infant would be appreciated.

I plan to give birth at Scripps Encinitas. From my understanding, tricare select covers labor doulas, so I am not entirely sure. I am very against medical interventions in labor. (No pitocin, epidural, episiotomy, etc.) I am looking for someone who is going to medically advocate for me to allow myself to be present in labor and not feel like I am having to fight off people trying to intervene when unnecessary. I have Tricare West Select.

My goal is a low intervention VBAC. Open to either home or hospital—but I am leaning towards laboring at home for as long as I can before giving birth at a hospital. I am in search of a Midwife or Monitrice (LM or CPM perhaps?) who can help me labor safely at home (provide fetal monitoring, look for signs of rupture, preform cervical exams if necessary.) I believe that my insurance plan covers twelve doula visits, or something comparable, as well as support during the birth. 3. I am very anxious and averse to pain, so I plan to get an epidural as soon as I need one. I do not want to give birth without an epidural. I have some complicating factors, such as a possible bicornate uterus, and a marginal cord inserton (<1cm). I am not averse to a C-section if it is medically necessary.
