After retiring from a long career of working with children and families, I became a professional doula. I wanted to support and nurture birthing persons during this sacred time of their lives. I wanted to offer sacred holistic services to them, youth, and communities by partnering with them as they learn more about holistic reproductive wellness. I also wanted to educate them about the importance of preventive reproductive health care, maternal health justice, trauma-informed quality childcare, equity and advocacy, childbirth education and basic lactation support through coaching, training, and mentoring not only birthing persons but the community and new doulas. So, I immersed and dedicated myself to learning all that I could about how to support in this way. ​ I am the mother of two amazing adult sons and oftentimes reflect on my birthing experiences. They were both very different births but what helped me survive was the birthing team I chose and the village around me when I returned home and encourage those, I serve to embrace their community and build their village. ​ I am also a Childbirth Educator, an author, singer/songwriter, a Master of Ceremony and a speaker. I am a birth justice advocate that believes birth work is justice work and there is no way to separate one from the other!

My mission is to help educate and support parents through their pregnancy and postpartum journey. You deserve to have the empowered experience you’ve always dreamt of and deserve! I am a mother to 4 kiddos and am experienced with having 3 very different c-section experiences as well as a healing vaginal birth after those 3 c-sections. You deserve to be heard and loved during this beautiful time of your life and I’m here for it all!

I spent the first six years of my career working in early childhood education. First working in a daycare, then moving onto preschool, and later working as a nanny. My time in early childhood gave me a great appreciation of mothers, children, and families. I found it incredibly rewarding to be welcomed into someone’s home and life to care for their most precious possession. As I worked in early childhood I simultaneously took certifications in my other passion, fitness. I began to learn about anatomy and how different perinatal bodies are to women who have not given birth. One of my trainings stated that 80% of women will be pregnant (and eventually postpartum) at some point in their lives. This special consideration stuck with me. It wasn’t until my husband and I decided to try for children that I fully understood the wonder of fertility, pregnancy, and birth. I became obsessed with devouring all the information I could on these topics and finally stumbled upon Ina May’s guide to childbirth. This book completely changed how I viewed birth and melted my fears of childbirth away. However, by the time I became pregnant navigating the often confusing OB and even midwifery world left me feeling dizzy. The entire process left me feeling disempowered and I knew I couldn’t go into giving birth from this space. This pushed me to train to be a birth doula to ensure I would have a positive pregnancy and birth experience. The training helped me to understand physiological birth, navigating the medical world, and what I wanted even in the event of an unplanned obstacle. I finally felt confident I could handle whatever labor could throw at me. My passion for birth was born out of necessity and I plan to use that same level of devotion to help other women. I truly believe my unique skill set and experiences have lead me to the field of birth work. I created Fit to Birth to combine all my knowledge and passions. I hope to provide resources, education, and support to pregnant women in Sacramento and beyond.

Maternal Wellness has been a Doula and Breastfeeding Support Organization since 2015. Maternal Wellness was one of the first Doula Organizations statewide back when Doula services were hardly recognized and were not covered or supported by Insurance companies or medical providers. When Doula Support was overlooked; Maternal Wellness continued supporting families and continued its advocacy on the importance of families needing support throughout Pregnancy and Postpartum. Maternal Wellness is an organization tailored to maternal-infant support giving you high quality and valuable services. We have experienced professional Doula’s and Breastfeeding experts who provide continuous physical, educational, emotional and informational support to families before, during and after childbirth to help them achieve the most satisfying experience possible.

Nurturing growing families in our local community is our passion! We support women & families in our community throughout pregnancy, birth, & postpartum recovery. We offer childbirth education, body balancing for a smoother labor/birth & continuous birth doula services, including emotional, physical & educational support. Our 4th trimester postpartum doula services include breastfeeding support, newborn care & light housekeeping. Doula support improves birth outcomes, increases safety and satisfaction in the birth and postpartum experience, and helps mothers achieve successful breastfeeding; all of which increases confidence in new parents and lowers perinatal mental health disorders, such as postpartum depression.

As a doula and childbirth educator with over 20 years of experience, I have come to learn that compassionate support is the most important thing I bring to birth. Close to 1000 births matters. Having taught 1000s of couples in childbirth classes matters. But mostly what matters is that the person giving birth feels respected, listened to and supported by someone who is thinking about all possible options for you in an objective way. I believe in freedom of choice based on knowledge of the alternatives. I aim to increase confidence and decrease fear. My goal as a doula is to ensure my clients are truly informed about their options and feel empowered to make impactful decisions about their birth. I support all types of births and have witnessed unmedicated, vaginal births all the way to emergency c-sections and everything in between.
