Hi there! This is a first pregnancy/child for myself and my partner, Charles. Doulas have come highly recommended from family and friends and we look forward to working with one of you! Our main priorities are education and advocacy support. We are both new to this journey and will greatly benefit from open, transparent conversations about our options, items we may not even think to ask about, and creating a plan (plus plans b, c, d and more) that we’re all comfortable with and on the same page about. Prior to this pregnancy, I’ve always been on the “drugs ASAP” train for birth. As I’ve read and started educating myself, I would like evidence-based information on natural births and waiting until 7-8cm before introducing an epidural. My goal is a vaginal birth if it is safe for me and baby and anything to reduce tearing and long-term pain is my preference if possible. I want to give birth in a hospital setting because I feel safest in a setting with all of the medical staff and resources that may be necessary. Regarding advocacy, I am a high risk mama-to-be. I will be 35 when the baby is born, I have a high BMI and I have been a type II diabetic for years. I’m blessed to have a wonderful medical team and support system so my A1c is in the normal range and my other health markers are strong without medication. I imagine it’s beneficial for a potential doula to be aware of those conditions. Charles and I are both black and are well aware of the black maternal death rates during birth. We want to ensure we have an advocate for our comfort and safety, along with the baby’s comfort and safety, when we may not be able to advocate for ourselves. We plan to have the baby at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis and would love to take birthing, newborn and postpartum educational classes. My due date is 11/20, but my doctors and midwife have referenced I’ll likely go at 37-39 weeks due to my risk factors. An early-mid November labor is likely. A few fun facts about us! Charles is a high school science teacher and I work in the interior design/color psychology field. We live in a super cute old house in Minneapolis with our two cats. Our hobbies include cooking, traveling and reading. I also love trash reality tv and Charles is a big Dungeons & Dragons nerd. Our nursery artwork will be Pokémon themed 🤣 Hopefully all of that information fulfills the dating-profile-esque matching basics so we can all make an educated decision when considering working together. Really looking forward to connecting and learning!

I will be giving birth at United Hospital. I have health partners insurance through the state, so any services would need to be covered by insurance. I am hoping for as natural of a birth as possible with as few interventions as possible however, I am a high risk pregnancy due to type one diabetes. (my diabetes is decently well controlled and is not the same as type two diabetes.) I had a lot of trauma from my last birthing experience, I didn’t know my rights and the doctors were VERY controlling and even forceful with me.

Hospital birth. No clue on what to expect for a budget. I’m looking for strategies to be prepared to do it naturally, since it spontaneously happened last time. But also want to consider epidural.

Isabelle is looking for Childbirth Educator, Postpartum Doula, Birth Doula
Location: Nowthen, MN, USA

I would prefer a child birth center or home birth. I would like to birth in natural positions and use gravity to help with pushing. I would prefer female staff to be in the room during birthing process. I would prefer no epidural, and use natural home remedies for pain.
