We’re moving midway through the pregnancy to the DC region, Maryland side. We’ll probably live in the Rockville area but I’m hoping to give birth with the midwives at George Washington University’s hospital. I’m looking for a labor doula to support an unmediated birth. I also struggled with low supply with my first child so I’m hoping to find a lactation consultant who specialises in that. We have Tricare, which covers both doulas and IBCLCs.

I would like to move freely, use non-medical comfort measures (am open to nitrous oxide), and allow labor to progess naturally whenever it is safe for me and my baby. I prefer to avoid unnecessary interventions, but understand circumstances can change and am open to medical recomendations if they become necessary. I appreciate being informed of my options and included in decisions. I prefer direct communication and a calm environment.

Kneeling birthing position (not on back unless absolutely necessary). Unable to have an epidural. Hospital has minimal pain management options (maybe some local because I asked about it. I plan to give birth in the midwifery unit of the MedStar Washington Hospital in Washington DC. I am looking to have as few interventions as possible and plan to birth unmedicated. I would strongly prefer a doula of Christian faith, though shared faith is not a requirement. I’m only interested in doulas with experience in a hospital setting and would prefer a doula with at least 3 years of experience. Ideally, my doula would also be able to take photographs periodically throughout labour and delivery, though I know this may not be likely. I am not interested in postpartum care.

Hospital Looking for a birth support doula / postpartum

Hospital birth in Silver Spring MD, using insurance to cover costs so I will require a doula in-network or contracted with Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, no specific birth plan yet other than preference for vaginal birth.
