Holistic nutritional full circle doula, Lorenda provides educational, emotional, and physical support to moms and their support team through their journey of parenthood. She received her certificate as community-based doula at Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA) in 2018 and trained as a full circle doula with Shafia Monroe Consulting, 2022. In January 2023, Lorenda became a Medicaid Provider as a doula, and trains other doulas to become Medicaid providers for the state of Michigan. As a leader, Lorenda serves on the Doula Advisory Council with the State of Michigan and is the president at Motor City Doula Association where she leads monthly meet ups with other doulas in the community.

Hi, my name is Alaila. I've been working as a doula for about 1 year now. I have 8 years of experience working in childcare as an early childhood education teacher. I have 3 children of my own, 1 boy and 2 girls. I became a doula because, I myself have preterm labor so I know the struggle to be heard during such an emotionally and physically difficult time as labor. I wanted to become a voice for anyone who is experiencing this struggle, to lift up their voice in the birthing room. I am currently enrolled and taking classes at Henry Ford to become a Medical Assistant. I plan to specialize as a Radiographer so that I can be even more helpful to the mothers I serve in the community and clinic settings.

Hello Birthing Families :) I am currently a Doula Trainee servicing the Detroit area. As I aim to complete my certification, I am providing free prenatal, labor and delivery, and postnatal support to expectant families. My purpose in this journey is to lower the risks of Mother's experiencing birth trauma, lack of support, and feeling unseen and unheard in the hospital room. My role is to provide support and comfort, ensure your questions are answered and needs are met, and overall advocate for what you want from the medical providers who will be aiding you in birthing your baby. We so often are in search of magic, without realizing we have it right inside of ourselves. For me, becoming a mother has proven that to be true. Birthing Ancestors was created from the idea that when you have a child you are not only birthing a future generation, but you are also birthing yourself as a parent - someone’s ancestor. Because of my unique blend of training and experience in both counseling and doula work, I am a good choice as a doula for anyone who would appreciate the extra depths I can go to in our prenatal and postpartum visits, as well as during your birth! In addition to the transformative and emotional side of birth, I also have done extended study in spinning babies, what different labor patterns mean, and what positions help in different situations.
