I plan to participate along with my husband and my care providers in making decisions about my labor, delivery and postpartum care. Listed below are my birth preferences; I understand that final decisions about my care will be discussed and agreed upon in the birthing room with my well-being and the safe delivery of my baby as the most important considerations.   Birth Preferences Early labor and Preparation: ● Spontaneous labor and vaginal delivery ● Limited cervical checks ● No membrane sweep ● No IV ● No Induction Labor: ● No medications, pitocin, epidural, laughing gas, etc. ● No IV ● Use of electronic fetal monitor externally only for an initial 20 minute strip; after that, I would prefer intermittent Doppler monitoring ● Want to move freely, walk around, and labor in preferred positions ● Would like light foods and clear liquids, taken orally ● Little to no lights in the room ● Only my husband, mother, and doula in the room Delivery: ● Vaginal Delivery, No IV ● Labor position: whatever feels most comfortable at the time. No laying on my back. ● No episiotomy, No use of forceps ● I’ll push when I feel the urge ● Immediate skin to skin contact with blanket over mom and baby ● No rubbing the baby (unless obvious medical attention is necessary) ● Delayed cord clamping (Until cord stops pulsating) ● Mom or Dad will cut the cord ● 1+ Golden hour of baby with mother ● Weight + Measurements taken only after 1 hour Postpartum: ● Baby remains in the room with mom and dad throughout entire hospital stay ● Establish breastfeeding, no formula ● No bath for baby ● Leave hospital within 12 hours if baby + mom are healthy ● No vitamin K, No vaccines. I’d love to have a doula for coaching purposes as I’d like to have a natural unmedicated birth this time around, I plan to give birth at st Luke’s in New Bedford, I have masshealth for insurance and wasn’t sure if they cover doula care. I’d like to labor at home as much as possible before going to hospital and I’d like the freedom to move around while laboring, my first time I was induced and had an epidural so I wasn’t able to move at all and had a decently long labor so I’d like to try something different this time
