About me

Hi! I’m Jaya Mallik (she/her), a birth and postpartum doula in Maple Valley, WA, where I live with my husband, Nathan, and our two daughters, Asha and Diya. My journey into doula work began with my own birth experiences. After an emergency first birth and postpartum depression, I found healing during my second birth with the support of a culturally aligned doula who empowered me and honored my values. Her guidance inspired me to provide the same compassionate care to others. As a Woman of Color and current DEI practitioner, I’m committed to addressing healthcare inequities and ensuring every birthing person feels empowered and supported through this transformative journey.

We can't say enough wonderful things about Jaya! She was a wonderful addition to our birth team and made both pregnancy and labor a comfortable and safe experience. Throughout pregnancy, Jaya was a great communicator. She was always willing to answer our questions and checked in on us as we got closer to the end of our pregnancy. When we met in person to discuss our vision for labor and delivery, she shared an immense amount of information with us and helped us craft a birth plan. She was respectful of all of our wishes and helped us to feel informed and prepared. We were unexpectedly induced before the end our pregnancy. When we found this out, Jaya immediately called us to talk things through. She was kind and gentle and made sure we had the information we needed. When she joined us in the hospital during labor, she brought with her a balance of both calmness and positivity. As labor progressed and we had to make decisions about care, she again made sure we had the right knowledge to make informed decisions. She supported both me and my partner as we navigated the challenges of labor, and helped to bring both joy and serenity into the room. Overall, Jaya was incredibly supportive, kind, and knowledgeable. She made us feel safe, listened to, and empowered. We would highly recommend her for birth doula services, and are very grateful for her support and wisdom.

Jaya was an incredible support throughout my pregnancy. As a first-time mom and a woman of color, I had a lot of anxiety about childbirth, but she made me feel informed, seen, and truly cared for. She was always there to answer my questions and comfort me when I felt unsure. What stood out most was her strength in advocating for what was best for me, especially in the hospital where it can be intimidating to speak up. Having her by my side gave me so much confidence and peace. I’m so grateful for her warmth, dedication, and guidance. I highly recommend Jaya to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and deeply supportive doula.

Jaya was an outstanding support for our family throughout the labor process. She's a clear and kind communicator who has a great depth of knowledge, and she helped us feel at ease during the challenging moments. Jaya always provided thoughtful and earnest answers to our many questions. Prior to labor and during preparation, Jaya helepd us understand better the different ways that labor could look and helped us shape and understand our labor preferences while offering great and practical tips to help us get ready for the big event. During labor Jaya seamlessly worked with the Medical Care Team and provided comfort, joy, expert coaching, and hands on support as we welcomed our son into the world. Through all the unexpected twists and turns, we felt privileged to have a wonderful guide like Jaya. We can't recommend Jaya enough as a Doula!

I was lucky to find Jaya to support me and my family for the birth of my second child. I immediately felt comforted by her warmth and friendliness. She is an excellent listener and tracks my desires and concerns, always providing me resources and a follow up where she can. She is a great combination of comforting and proactive and while I luckily didn’t need it during my labor, got the sense that she goes to bat and advocates for her clients when needed (knowing I had this in my back pocket was very comforting!). During labor, Jaya was a great support to me and my husband, providing comfort measures and suggestions that got me through the toughest parts and communicating with the healthcare team at the hospital when needed. Her support post-partum had been wonderful- being a listening ear, offering strategies and advice, and honestly being a hands on support to my baby and older child who is learning to navigate life as an older sibling. I recommend Jaya wholeheartedly!

Jaya Mallik was invaluable. She did all the talking to the doctors and nurses. And she explained to us what is going on—which was very helpful to me and my husband.

Jaya is a delight to work with. She is positive, supportive and eager to share knowledge to help new parents. She helped us get settled with our newborn during the early postpartum period and helped with useful tips as I was navigating challenging readjustment as a new mom. I felt comfortable sharing my struggles with her and got a lot of useful tips. For example, she mentioned the term matrescence and it was one of the key discoveries for me as I was navigating early postpartum. Besides being a wealth of knowledge, Jaya is extremely organized and responsive. She followed up consistently, communicated very clearly and proactively. It was a breeze working with her and I highly recommend her as a doula.

Jaya is the best. She was with me during my C section and postpartum and it made such a difference. I was able to sleep and enjoy my baby and prevent postpartum depression which I was really worried about. She is so kind and provided such great information and resources. To me she is a friend now and I can’t recommend her enough. I think everyone should have a doula if they can, and Jaya specifically.

Working with Jaya was one of the best decisions we made during my pregnancy and postpartum journey. She was compassionate, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to making sure we felt supported, informed, and empowered every step of the way.  Jaya has a bubbly personality that instantly puts you at ease. She’s warm, relatable, and brings joyful energy to every interaction—something that made a big difference during both the intense and tender moments. As a woman of color, I had concerns about being heard and having my choices respected in a hospital setting. Jaya understood these concerns and helped me craft a birth plan that reflected my values. She brought up things I hadn’t considered and made sure I felt confident and prepared. During labor, Jaya was a steady, reassuring presence. She checked in after doctors or nurses explained something to ensure I understood and felt comfortable. When I had questions, she advocated for me and made sure I got answers. She also supported my spouse, helping him feel involved and heard.  Although my birth didn’t go exactly as planned, it was still a positive experience because Jaya helped us stay informed and connected. Postpartum, Jaya continued to be a lifesaver. She helped around the house, supported us with feeding, gave me time for self-care, and even provided overnight help so we could rest. Her support was truly holistic—emotional, physical, and practical. Jaya is not only a skilled doula but also a deeply empathetic and vibrant person. If you’re looking for someone who will advocate for you, support your family, and help you navigate birth and postpartum with grace, strength, and joy, you’ll be in excellent hands with Jaya.

From the very first day after our daughter came home from the hospital, Jaya immersed herself in our family’s rhythm, offering calm expertise when we felt overwhelmed. Her presence was both warm and professional—a rare combination that instantly put us at ease. Jaya’s understanding of newborn physiology and postpartum healing surpassed our expectations. As our postpartum doula, she provided exceptional care not only for our baby, but for us as new parents navigating unfamiliar territory. She guided us through pumping techniques, milk supply management, patiently demonstrating positions and troubleshooting common hurdles such as calming strategies for fussy moments, plans for mother’s rest, nutrition, and emotional well-being. Beyond that, she coached us on safe swaddling, diapering, and sleep-cycle cues, ensuring we felt confident rather than confused each time we stepped into the baby's room. What made Jaya extraordinary is her ability to blend science and experience. She explained the “whys” behind baby behavior and care in a way that was clear and empowering, while also sharing real-life wisdom from her own journey. Her approach was always inclusive and respectful of our values—she listened, adapted, and supported us without judgment. Her practical contributions to our home were just as impactful. The closet was always well organized, and our baby was consistently dressed in freshly laundered clothes when Jaya left. Baby laundry was folded and tucked away neatly, and bottles were meticulously cleaned and ready for the next feed. These thoughtful touches made daily life easier and more comfortable, allowing us to focus on bonding with our baby and building confidence as new parents. Now that our baby is two months old, we carry forward every lesson Jaya taught us. We’ve built routines, solved feeding puzzles, and even started planning for milestones ahead—all thanks to her mentorship. To any family seeking more than just hands-on help, but true partnership through the tender early days of parenthood, we wholeheartedly recommend Jaya. She doesn’t just support—you grow stronger under her guidance, equipped with knowledge, compassion, and a deep sense of trust. We are deeply grateful to have had her by our side during such a vulnerable and meaningful time. Thanks to Jaya, we felt confident, informed, and cared for. If you’re looking for a doula who combines science, sensitivity, and genuine care, Jaya is the person you want by your side.
