birth doula offers physical and emotional support by providing resources, assisting in creating a birth plan, performing non medical comfort measures for pregnancy/labor related pain, suggest position changes to help in labor creates an environment conducive to labor (when possible), acts as an advocate for the mother, encouraging and helping her fulfill specific desires she might have for her birth, and supports through all types of births and through whatever choices the parents make. During labor: • Stay with you constantly to provide comfort and support • Use massage and touch to help you relax and rest • Help you get into comfortable positions • Help you get adequate nutrition and fluids • Help communicate your preferences to the medical staff

I had the pleasure of working with Kate and her mother Margie during the labor and delivery of my daughter. Kate was my Doula and her mother was my birth photographer. They make one amazing duo! I had planned on a home water birth and unfortunately after 30 hours of unmedicated labor at home it turned into a hospital transfer and then an emergency cesarian surgery. Kate and her mother stayed in contact with me throughout the day when I knew I was in early labor and then got to my home promptly after she received the call that things were quickly progressing. Kate was so knowledgeable on different comfort measures for me during my labor. She was compassionate and extremely supportive during the whole entire experience! She even sent me a lot of information prior to my daughters arrival regarding helpful tips, body positioning and things I could do prior to early labor and through out to help me during every stage. Her mother is so kind, empathetic and takes beautiful pictures! I will cherish the moments she captured for our family forever. Margie even came to the hospital with us and stayed at the hospital not knowing if she would or would not be able to come back in to our room in order to take pictures after my surgery. We are so grateful we had Kaitlin there for the birth of our son. After four previous medicated births and some undesired side effects, I desperately wanted to have my fifth baby naturally. Kaitlin arrived to the hospital quickly and jumped right in applying different techniques to help me manage the pain. My labor was quick and very intense but Kaitlin didn’t miss a bit. She supported me and advocated for me so that I could labor and ultimately deliver in the most comfortable position for me, which happened to be standing. She helped me refocus through my contractions and when I felt like I couldn’t continue without medication, she encouraged me and helped me make it through to the end. With Kaitlin, and the support of my husband, I was able to have the unmedicated, natural birth I wanted and despite the quick, fierce labor and delivery, I’ve had the easiest recovery of all five births. We are so grateful for Kaitlin.
