About Mia

It is an honor to be here. My name is Mia Willis, a Chicago-based birth worker, educator, and founder of Sorin Motherhouse—a maternal practice devoted to the protection, becoming, and realignment of the mother. Sorin Motherhouse is built on the belief that maternal care is sacred work, not a service industry. My approach to birth and maternal care is relational rather than transactional, grounded in presence, discernment, and sovereignty over saviorism. My work is informed by lived experience, research-backed training, and clinical practice, honoring the mother as the primary site of wisdom and transformation. I hold training in traditional birth work and budding herbalism alongside modernized birth support, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care that is respectful of diverse lived realities. My practice also includes foundational education in nutrition and lactation support during pregnancy and the fourth trimester. I have served over seventy families as a full-spectrum doula, holding space across a wide range of birth experiences with care, steadiness and integrity. Sorin Motherhouse is carefully curated maternal space for those who approach birth as a rite and maternal care as a serious, embodied charge. It centers mothers who enter pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with the understanding that becoming requires intention, rest, and deep respect. The Holding - Extended Birth Support

This service package is for those who desire a truly holistic, full-circle birth experience, particularly during first births, inductions, or VBACs, where extended presence and continuity of care can be deeply supportive. It includes a complimentary consultation, three prenatal visits offered either virtually or in person, birth education and birth planning, on-call availability with extended continuous birth support, and immediate postpartum support. Care continues at home with a “welcome home” transitional overnight visit, followed by two postpartum check-ins that may be virtual or in person. Ongoing phone, text, and email support are included throughout the care period.

The Threshold - Birth-Only Support

Birth-Only Support is designed for families in their third trimester who are seeking focused support during labor without extended prenatal or postpartum care. This offering is available to those entering care later in pregnancy and is intended for families who are no later than 37 weeks at the time of booking. It includes a complimentary consultation, one birth education and planning session, on-call availability with limited continuous birth support, and immediate postpartum support, followed by one postpartum check-in that may be virtual or in person. Ongoing phone, text, and email support are included throughout the care period.

The Presence - Limited Birth Support

This service package is for those who feel confident moving into a later vaginal or planned birth and desire steady, focused support throughout labor and the immediate transition after birth. It includes a complimentary consultation, three prenatal visits offered either virtually or in person, birth education and birth planning, on-call availability with limited continuous birth support, and immediate postpartum support. Care extends into the home with a “welcome home” transitional overnight visit, followed by two postpartum check-ins that may be virtual or in person. Ongoing phone, text, and email support are included throughout the care period.

I have raved about Mia for years. I will continue to rave about Mia for the years to come. Absolutely amazing. How many clients do you take at one time?

To preserve the quality and integrity of care, Sorin Motherhouse limits the number of clients accepted each month. Availability is intentionally restricted, with a maximum of two births accepted per month. This ensures presence, continuity, and the capacity to hold birth work with the seriousness and attention it deserves.

What happens if my due date changes or my birth plan shifts?

Birth is dynamic, and flexibility is built into all offerings. Care plans are adapted as circumstances evolve, with ongoing communication and support provided throughout the perinatal period. Changes are approached with clarity, calm, and respect for the realities of birth.

How do I begin working with Sorin Motherhouse?

Do you offer postpartum doula or overnight care?

Postpartum support at Sorin Motherhouse is offered in a limited and intentional capacity. Birth packages include one welcome-home overnight care shift, which consists of a single 12-hour overnight period that may be used within seven days of giving birth. Overnight care is provided between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., with scheduling contingent upon availability. Ongoing postpartum doula services, domestic support, or nanny-style care are not within the scope of this practice.

When does on-call birth support begin?

On-call birth support typically begins at 37 weeks of pregnancy and continues through birth. Clients receive guidance on when and how to initiate contact once labor begins, ensuring support is timely, responsive, and grounded.

What does the initial consultation involve?

The complimentary consultation is a mutual discernment conversation. It offers space to discuss values, expectations, and care needs while determining whether Sorin Motherhouse is the appropriate fit. Not all inquiries move forward into formal care, as alignment is essential to the integrity of this work.

Do you attend hospital, birth center, and home births?

Yes. Sorin Motherhouse supports births in hospital, birth center, and home settings. Care is adapted to the chosen environment while maintaining a consistent approach rooted in presence, advocacy, and respect for the mother’s autonomy and birth preferences.

Is Sorin Motherhouse inclusive of different family structures and identities?

Yes. This practice is committed to trauma-informed, respectful care that honors diverse family structures, gender expressions, and lived realities. While Sorin Motherhouse centers the mother’s experience, care is offered with intention, cultural humility, and respect.
