I am in need of a doula or midwife, I plan to give birth in a hospital.

I want a midwife to help me deliver my baby and my appointments leading up to that day. I’m 24 years old this is my 1st pregnancy and I always wanted to do a natural birth but I am afraid and I will probably give birth at the hospital. I want to use my Medicaid.

So far we've had very few complications and are hoping to have a natural birth with an epidural for pain management with very few if any friends and family around.

I am having a hospital birth due to being considered "high-risk," but I'd like as natural an experience as possible and want my wants and needs to be taken seriously. From what I've seen doulas cost around $1.5k, so I'm willing to pay around that amount. I want as few interventions as possible and to not be pressured into anything (epidural, inducement, etc.). I would like to be able to choose what positions I'm most comfortable in during birth rather than being forced onto my back, if possible. I do not want to be forced into an unnecessary c-section or the birth rushed. Unless the baby is in a real emergency, I want the baby to have skin-to-skin contact with me immediately after birth. I do not want the baby to be given a pacifier whatsoever. I intend to breastfeed.

I am planning to get an epidural if possible and would like guidance with using a peanut ball and laboring in different positions instead of only delivering on my back. I may want to try all-fours on the bed or side-lying with one leg supported. I also prefer for the placenta to remain attached until it stops pulsating. My estimated budget for doula support in Richmond, VA is around $800–$1,200 depending on what is included. I currently have Blue Cross Blue Shield FEP (lowest plan) and would like to know if any portion can be reimbursed.
