We’re looking for some support with breastfeeding and would really appreciate your guidance. Specifically, I’m hoping to get help with: • Improving latch and positioning • Encouraging effective latching without a nipple shield (we’re currently using a shield on the left side and would love help weaning off of it) • Making sure our baby is getting optimal milk during feeds and gaining weight appropriately • Guidance on pumping and how to do that effectively in tandem with breastfeeding Overall, we’re looking for some foundational breastfeeding support to make sure we’re on the right track and to build confidence moving forward.

I am having pain with latch even though the latch looks good. I had really bad nipple damage first few days postpartum which I’m letting heal with just pumping. I’ve been using a nipple shield and I still have pain. I have been exclusively pumping and feeding baby that way, but I would really like to just breast-feed. I tried to latch here and there with the shield and it still hurts.

Born via creation latched great and nursed well at hospital then latched got worse when we got home. She was jaundice so our pediatrician had me pump to make sure exactly the amount she was getting because she was losing too much weight and not gaining. I do want to breastfeed directly but she caused a lot of nipple trauma and mastitis already on left side. I have cleared the mastitis and finished antibiotics. Wanting to try again but afraid I’ll have bad nipple trauma again. She will not nurse with a nipple shield I have tried. I do have tricare but do not have a lot of money to pay out of pocket. My husband is currently deployed and will not be back state side til May. We have a 6 year old lil boy as well. He nursed ok but did require nipple shield he however didn’t mind the shield and eventually I was able to take the shield away and we made it to 6 months. I have never been an oversupply person I did have to give some formula for our first cause I did not make enough for him. She has had formula already and she is finally gaining weight so I don’t want to rock the boat with that.

I am looking to give birth at the Trinity Health Family Birth Center in Ann Arbor. I would like to find a doula that could help me advocate for the unmedicated, calm, quiet birth of my dreams. My ideal birth would feel peaceful and empowering, with as minimal interruptions as possible. I would also like to breastfeed, so support in that area would be a huge bonus!
