I would prefer a home birth at the moment but need to do more research on the subject. And the matter of safety. I have only ever been to an ob-gyn once 5 years ago and it was the absolute worst experience of my life. I have a phobia of doctors (I end up shaking/crying, excessive sweating, etc) and do not have good experiences in general from the medical field so going to a hospital for a birth I worry may stress me out to a point where I can’t do this birth myself. I would like as natural of a birth as possible, ideally the only people touching me is myself or my husband unless absolutely necessary. Perhaps laughing gas for pain management if I am struggling. Hospitals don’t typically listen to you when you talk so I have many worries about that. I understand some touching may be necessary and if it become medically necessary then I completely understand. Likely won’t be comfortable with it but can understand stuff happens. I also understand emergencies happen, and sometimes there won’t be time to explain what exactly is happening. In those kinds of events I’d honestly prefer a debrief of what the protocol is well before birth (knowing it may be scary) so that in that situation all a provider needs to do is give me a keyword or phrase and I will know the baseline of what is happening or going to happen. Again I understand not all of the details can be defined beforehand, but having a basic understanding is important to me. As far as budget goes, I really don’t know what to expect. We have blue cross blue shield federal insurance so I’m hoping that will cover the majority of mine and the babies care.
