Ines Serna is a mother, childbirth educator, and doula with a Master of Health Sciences in Public Health. She became interested in pregnancy and the birth process after having her first child in 2010. Shortly after Ines started working for the childbirth education department at a prestigious Bergen County hospital where she gained a great deal of knowledge about maternity services. After the birth of her second child, in 2014, she decided to become a childbirth educator. Through her two birth experiences, she realized the power of knowledge can have a positive impact on birth outcomes. While working as a childbirth educator at the hospital, Ines saw the necessity of giving additional support to her clients. She has trained with DONA International to obtain all the required skills to assist mothers during the birth process. Ines is dedicated to expanding her knowledge by attending maternal and child health conferences, seminars, and networking with health professionals in the community. Ines’s extensive hospital experience has allowed her to see and understand the need to continue advocating for patient-centered care. She believes a patient’s personal preferences such as values, cultural traditions, family support, and lifestyles must be taken into consideration. Ines is passionate about supporting expectant parents by making sure they understand that they have options before, during, and after birth. She firmly believes that EVERY woman deserves a good support network. A network that consists of health professionals, along with family, friends, and of course the support of a doula is the greatest gift parents can experience in their lifetime.

I’ve been working with childbearing families in northern New Jersey for many years, and I strive to bring the knowledge and experience I’ve gained to each of my clients. My great joy is helping people find their own path, and trying to make it more comfy along the way.

When I contacted Britt, I was 12 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I really desired to have a relationship with my doctor, but since most OBGYN practices have you seeing multiple professionals, I was not getting that. I was desiring to go the natural birth-in-a-hospital route and hearing other friends’ stories, a doula sounded like the perfect fit. Britt was recommended by one of my friends who had Britt attend and help at all three of her babies’ births. Britt offered us a birthing course in our home, she gave us literature and resources to use an practice as we anticipated our first birth, she was ALWAYS responsive when texted or called, was informed about alternatives such as the Fresh Test, and she was a great help and encouragement to my husband pre-birth, during labor and delivery and after birth. Britt knew what I wanted - when we got to the hospital and we were almost put into a room without a tub, she was there ADVOCATING for us (since a tub room was available and it was my hope to labor in one). Britt is levelheaded, intelligent, witty, and has an excellent sense of humor. She tells it like it is. She is loving and compassionate - truly a gift from heaven. She checked in on me all throughout my pregnancy and after my baby was born. As she put it to me, “Once your doula, always your doula.” To put it simply, hire Britt as your doula. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I will try to put into words the feelings I have, in an attempt to express my gratitude to Renée. Firstly, I would not have been successful without her. She believed in me, my body, my ability even when I questioned it. She knew what to do at every step- from our first conversation to the leading up to the birth, to actual birth & right after. Thank you for helping me at home as well. You just knew exactly what to do & coached me through it in a kind, gentle way (even when others were nervous you knew how to handle them too ;). Knew what to do to progress labor and when to move to hospital. I don’t know how Renée remained so present with me during the hospital delivery. A million people screaming at me- I focused on what she said. She just knew. 30 mins in L&D and baby was here. This was thanks to her cues. I would not have known what was happening without the cues Renée taught me. And after birth, helping us with immediate nursing & taking pictures!

I am a certified postpartum doula, lactation counselor, mother, and designer. I was born in NYC and grew up between Brooklyn and Honolulu, where my parents met. Surrounded by natural beauty in Hawaii, I became really interested in plants and studied the ways they're used as natural medicine in indigenous cultures. I dove further into holistic wellness and lived in an ashram in India, where I obtained my yoga teaching certification. It became clear to me that one can be healed by connecting the mind and body with nature. I love to create nourishing meals that incorporate healing herbs to nurture the body into a balanced state of well-being. After I birthed my son, I really understood the challenges in postpartum and importance of supporting and honoring new parents in their special journey. I feel empowered to help postpartum families through one of the biggest transitions of their lives, to make them feel supported and provide resources in areas where they may feel uninformed. I currently reside in Ridgewood, NY and enjoy yoga, cooking, dancing, and tending my medicinal herb garden.

Lornnie was such a pleasure to spend time with and was so supportive. She cooked delicious and nutritious post-partum meals, cleaned the kitchen and boxed up leftovers for us for the rest of the week. Lornnie also helped us with some tips for newborn care. She is connected with the community and helped connect me to a group of new moms in the neighborhood.

I have been attending births since 1996, first as a doula and childbirth educator and since 2008 as a licensed midwife in NJ and 2010 in NY. I have been in private practice and partnerships with wonderful midwives and have mentored many students through the process of becoming a midwife in the apprenticeship model. I believe birth is sacred, and that the sovereignty of the birthing person must be kept in mind throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Keeping reproductive justice at the forefront of the work midwives do is critical to reducing maternal and infant mortality in the United States. I believe that midwives have a responsibility to that work and are the answer to the maternal mortality crisis we are facing. I have had multiple leadership roles at both state and national levels and continues to volunteer helping to move midwifery forward in both NJ and NY with the goal of recreating systems so that birthing people can have access to the equitable and culturally congruent care they deserve. I am the mother to five amazing adult children and Grammy to four precious grandchildren. The birth of a child is an amazing mixture of physical happenings, emotional ups and downs and spiritual and personal growth. It brings with it the realization that we are powerful and powerless at the same time; that we can be in control while surrendering; and that nothing else at that moment, hour, day or even days matters, only the intensity of the work we have to do to bring this precious life from us, to us. It is a true blessing and an honor to be present, and I feel privileged to be a part of the journey.

Dena Gold

Dena is an acupuncturist, herbalist, massage therapist, and doula based in New York City, and has been working in holistic health since 2012. She has experience working with people through their whole conception and parenting journey - those trying to conceive, through their pregnancies, at their births, and through the postpartum period. Before this she worked in childcare for nine years in multiple settings across all ages. She has diverse experience including infants, autism, twins, and behavior challenges. In terms of birth, her priority is to let each person guide their own experience, while offering them the information they need to make informed decisions and to help them navigate some of the complexity of the medical system. It is important to her that clients are given the ability to lead their birth experience and that they feel empowered to hold fast to their plan or change it, based on what feels right to them in the moment. As a massage therapist hands on support is natural for her. She also has some experience with hypnobirthing and spinning babies, but does not force modalities if these don't match a clients vision. With postpartum her goal is to help parents navigate the complexity and intensity of the postpartum period. To help them get the rest they need, to help them navigate the complexities of breast and/or bottle feeding, to figure out what the baby's needs are, etc. She tries to follow the parents' philosophy while helping them find information/practitioners that might help support them further.

Recent review

Dena is reliable, friendly, knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated. She’s very attentive to her clients’ needs and she’ll always have your back. Dena remains humble while she explains her work which can be really helpful during such an intimate and sensitive time. You can tell that she really cares about her clients. I highly recommend her doula and acupuncture services.
