Hi, My name is Charon Jolliff. I am a retired labor and delivery nurse--I was a home birth midwife for many years before going to the dark side--currently living abroad. My daughter-in-law, Nicole Jolliff, is due with her first baby on September 25th. She was planning a home delivery, but has been risked out due to GDM. She's been transferred to an obgyn and is now on insulin. Unfortunately, I think it is likely with this diagnosis that Nicole will end up on IV insulin and the whole shebang during her labor. Last night when she called, I asked her about getting a doula, and she's open to the idea. So I'm inquiring about doula services available both during labor, but especially afterwards since I won't be able to be there to help her and I'm unclear about her mother's involvement (she's close to her father but she doesn't say much about her mother and I'm not nosy that way. She and my son eloped, so I never got to meet her.) Anyway, I'm trying to see what services might be available and how I can help my daughter receive them. Thank you.
