What's the Cost of Hiring a Lactation Consultant in Rio Rancho, NM?

The cost of a lactation consultant in Rio Rancho, NM, may vary depending on the provider, location, and type of service (in-home or clinic visits). On average, in the United States, lactation consultant services typically range from $150 to $350 for an initial consultation, which usually lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. Follow-up consultations can range from $75 to $150. Some insurance plans may partially or fully cover the cost of lactation consulting, so it is worth checking with your insurance provider. For specific pricing in Rio Rancho, NM, it is best to contact local lactation consultants directly.

The cost of a lactation consultant in Rio Rancho, NM can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Certification

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) typically charge more than Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) due to their advanced training and ability to handle complex breastfeeding issues.

  • Visit Type

In-home visits generally cost more than office visits or virtual consultations. Many consultants in Rio Rancho offer telehealth options at reduced rates.

  • Insurance Coverage

Insurance coverage for lactation consultant services in Rio Rancho, NM, depends on your specific insurance plan and provider. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many insurance plans are required to cover breastfeeding support, including lactation consultations, without cost-sharing. However, the extent of coverage, the number of visits allowed, and whether the consultant needs to be in-network can vary. It’s best to contact your insurance provider directly to confirm coverage details and ensure that the lactation consultant you choose is covered under your plan.

  • Number of Sessions

Some consultants offer package deals for multiple sessions, which can be more cost-effective than paying per visit, especially for ongoing breastfeeding challenges.

  • HSA and FSA Eligibility

Lactation consulting is an IRS-eligible medical expense, meaning you can use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost without paying taxes on those dollars.

  • Experience and Specialization

Consultants with specialized expertise in areas like tongue ties, premature infant feeding, or relactation may charge higher rates.

When looking for a lactation consultant in Rio Rancho, NM, it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider first, as many plans cover lactation services. Interview several consultants to find one who fits your needs and budget, and ask about their specific credentials, experience, and what each session includes.

Hi I'm Natalie. I am so glad that you're here! I am a board certified lactation consultant and mother of two. My passion is helping families feed their babies and navigate the journey into motherhood. My approach is simple, I meet families where they are at and then I help them grow their vision to meet their feeding goals. Each family is unique and I take care to honor their choices and paths to success. Success looks different for everyone. To me success is achieving a goal, even if it changes along the way, and overcoming challenges and obstacles that might come up. I look forward to working with new families and babies everyday and hope to see you soon!

Recent review

working with Natalie from newborn to over one year has been absolutely invaluable in supporting both me and my baby through the journey of breastfeeding. In those first few days after birth I was at my wits end and in so much pain. She helped me with latch techniques, ensuring my baby was feeding effectively, and addressed any initial challenges like nipple pain, burping and even went over my pump parts to ensure it fit my breast properly. She also educated me on recognizing my baby's feeding cues and offered many solutions for managing issues with my milk production and ensuring my baby was gaining weight. As my baby grew, the consultants continued to guide me through feeding schedules, my transition to working full time and being away from my baby, milk storage, and challenges like teething and growth spurts that sometimes disrupted feeding. She also supported me in transitioning to solid foods when we felt ready and educated me on choking and signs to look for and showing me how to balance breastfeeding with introducing new foods. Throughout the year, her emotional support and expert advice gave me the knowledge and confidence to meet my breastfeeding goals even when I felt this journey was near impossible due to my lack of supply.

I am Tintawi Kaigziabiher, and my family and I live in Northern New Mexico. As a woman of African Descent. I recognize the importance of both science and tradition in uplifting Black and Indigenous communities. My husband and I have five living children. We have also experienced five pregnancy losses. Understanding the impact of personal pregnancy loss and stillbirth among families has inspired me to want to support as many people as possible so they can live to see their child’s birth, first birthday, and beyond. It is equally important that people have support through pregnancy loss. In my day-to-day life, I am an interdisciplinary artist, a writer, Olorisa (Lukumi Priest), Certified Lactation Counselor (ALPP), Certified Birth Doula (CBI), former Certified Trainer (CBI), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider, the Executive Director of the nonprofit ILE IFE, a PAILAdvocate Trainer (Pregnancy and Infant Loss), and the founder of the Our Earth Full Spectrum Community Birth and Postpartum Attendant (CBPA) training program. I am a published author, and my most recent work is a book entitled “The Bead Griot.” My writing and artwork center on giving voice to the experiences of African people living in the diaspora. I have worked in maternal and infant health since 2004 and professionally since 2009. I have assisted midwives, trained with birth attendants in traditional and evidence-based care, worked with families in home and hospital births, trained doulas and full-spectrum Community Birth and Postpartum Attendants (CBPAs), and supported women and birthing people in New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and overseas, both virtually and in-person as needed. In collaboration with several statewide organizations I am part of, I seek to uncover disparities in reproductive health care and, with community members, develop unique solutions to improve outcomes for our most vulnerable yet resilient people.
