About me

My name is Valery Lawton and I have 25+ years of experience in maternal and child health. I am a child birth educator, certified lactation consultant and a (CD) DONA Doula. My goal is walk this journey of labor and birth with you. In my experience, I have learned that there are solid evidence-based practices and values that support the way a mother should and can labor. Here are just a few... A mother has the right to choose her birth desires in a birth plan and alter them at anytime. You are an AMAZING woman to bring forth a child. Delivering vaginally and unmedicated is just as much mental as it is physical. The ability to remain mobile and to labor how you feel is significant and having the ability to push in the position best for you and for optimal openness is paramount because 10 centimeters does not mean time to push. Allow the body to naturally tell you when it feels the urge to push. Having medical interventions and/or a C-section does not make you a failure or any less of a parent. When your baby is born, the mother is born also! Postpartum support and care is extremely important and needs as much planning if not more as your birth. Breastfeeding needs patience, support, and a comfortable space to express your feelings.
