About Ahyashah

I own and operate a birthing practice in Missouri and Kansas. My birthing practice is named My Ancient Birthing to commemorate my love for my God and also to embody and recognize ancient birthing practices. I am also an activist for the fair treatment of minorities; therefore, my practice serves as a pillar in supporting this paradigm. I am an ante, intra and postpartum doula AND midwife, a fertility and birth practitioner through DONA and I specialize in small surgical circumcision(s), lactation coaching and maternal fitness. I have a plethora of accomplishments through my work in My Ancient Birthing, but among the greatest achievement was being interviewed by the Voyage Magazine on March 5, 2026. I was able to introduce my birthing practice to people who are not privy to it and be a reminder for those who were already aware. I look forward to speaking with you soon!

I would like to start by saying I am extremely pleased with the work provided by Ahyashah! She was my midwife and doula. She is DONA certified which is a HUGE plus! She is very knowledgeable in this line of work. She was willing to answer any and every question that I had and if there was something she wanted to confirm, she did her research and got back to my husband and I. She is very soft spoken, sweet, kind and knowledgeable. I know I said knowledgeable already but once you hire her, you will understand why I am expressing this more than once. My husband pointed out that he appreciated how she also ensured his understanding, not leaving him out of the loop like the doctors did in our first birth. We had a water birth. Ahyashah was there every step of the way! I was delighted to have her on my team and will definitely book again, if we have another baby! Thank you so very much Ahyashah!

What made you pursue this line of work?

I chose this line of work to give back to my people. Educating, empowering, exemplifying and being a pillar of sisterly rest is how I give back to my people. I also chose this line of work to aid in preserving the lives of my sisters during the most vulnerable time of their lives. There are 70 deaths per 100,000 live births, specifically among black women. I look to contribute to the decrease in these catastrophic morbidity and mortality rates. What if I hemorrhage, will you be able to save me?

Yes, I am trained on emergency tactics for stopping the bleeding during hemorrhaging. I will also go over these tactics as we build your birth plan and consider the emergency "what ifs" that were briefly discussed on the "The Experience" page, under, "Step 2's, Pregnancy Support".
