I’m a little late to writing this review since I had my baby in December 2025, but I’ve been meaning to share how amazing my experience with Christina Buchanan was! My first birth was in a hospital, and I remember feeling like I didn’t really have much say in the decisions being made. Having Christina as my midwife was such a completely different experience. She really believes in moms making their own choices, while still giving you honest, knowledgeable advice and making sure you feel confident in those choices. I always felt heard, respected, and supported. I gave birth in my living room, and the whole experience was honestly so empowering. Christina’s bedside manner is incredible, and I felt so comfortable and safe with her there. One thing that still amazes me is that within two hours of giving birth, my house was completely spotless. You honestly would have had no idea a baby had just been born in my living room! She was so respectful of my home and just took care of everything. After having both a hospital birth and a home birth, I can confidently say I would choose a home birth with Christina again in a heartbeat. She made the entire experience so positive and empowering, and I’m so thankful I found her. Christina is truly the best, and I would recommend her to anyone considering a home birth.

From an early age, Rophe was drawn to birth work and the beauty of the experience. Rophe is passionate about advocating for couples and giving them the education they need to make informed decisions to take charge of their births. She believes strongly in the beauty and strength of a women's body and its intended design for birth. Melissa’s earliest memory of delighting in the birth process was as a child visiting the Science Museum. She remembers watching videos, one of a mother dancing in her labor room, another surrounded by her young family, while another escaped into a birthing pool to focus inwardly. It was not until Melissa became a mother herself that she realized just how empowering the birth space can be.

Andrea supported us for the birth of our first child, and I was able to have the unmedicated birth I hoped for. She was available leading up to the birth for emotional preparation, and helped me labor through the night at home so I arrived at the hospital already in active labor — a real accomplishment for me. She was in our room minutes after we checked in, interfaced beautifully with my medical team, and paid close attention to my cues, offering well-timed suggestions that kept me calm and progressing. When we hit a few unexpected bumps, she helped me stay steady rather than anxious. I'd recommend her without hesitation — she was kind, respectful of my birth preferences, and easy to trust during such a vulnerable time.

I began my career as a birth professional in 2013 as a registered nurse, specializing in Labor & Delivery. I am also a certified doula and home birth midwife. I have worked as a travel nurse in different states, which has allowed me to learn a variety of useful methods and introduce them where beneficial to my birthing moms. It has been my pleasure to work with families of diverse backgrounds, helping them welcome their new baby into the world and fulfill their best possible pregnancy & birth experience. I enjoy working with women who labor with or without epidurals assisting them with massage, positioning, and breathing techniques to achieve a calming labor experience. I have attended over 2,000 births including water birth and cesarean deliveries. I completed my training and certification as a birth and bereavement doula through both the DONA International and Stillbirthday (bereavement) programs. I have also obtained certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to assist women in their breastfeeding goals. As a Chocolate Milk Cafe facilitator I hold monthly meetings to provide Black women and their families with breastfeeding support and resources. I have received training as an Evidence Based Birth Instructor through Evidence Based Birth. Additionally, I have completed training to become a fertility and pregnancy and infant loss (PAIL) advocate. As a registered nurse I hold certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), AWOHNN Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate & Advanced), and Safe Sleep. My goal is to help educate mothers and families to be as prepared as possible for the childbirth experience and help them to adjust thereafter. I offer hands-on support, as well as help mom understand each step of the labor/birth process so she may better voice her desires to her provider (MD/CNM). I am very open and willing to answer mom/family questions and address any expressed concerns. Sharing the birthing process and miracle of life is my passion. I know that the birthing process can be very overwhelming and my focus is to help diminish any sense of fear and replace it with knowledge and empowerment. I highly recommend! Lydia is a midwife, experienced, and completely trustworthy midwife. She and her entire team do a fantastic job; they have been like my support system throughout my pregnancy and childbirth journey. I will definitely return to them in the future. My overall pregnancy birth and experience is happy and satisfied. I share my experience with my family and it has changed how they think about natural home birth. I came to Lydia at the beginning of my pregnancy and enjoyed everything about the whole process. All of the preparations we did with Lydia were important beginning to end. Having a midwife at the birth made me feel safe and more comfortable.

Mikki Bell

Mikki Bell

14 years of experience

With more than a decade of experience supporting families through pregnancy, birth and postpartum, Mikki brings a deep respect for physiologic birth together with comprehensive professional midwifery training. Mikki has really been preparing for this gifting her whole life. She jokes, "The first birth client I ever had was a momma sheep out on our family friend's farm in Colorado when I was 9 years old. That was the first birth I ever participated in and since then, I've been so enthralled with birth in every form." Before becoming a licensed midwife, Mikki gave birth to each of her three babies at home with midwives and also spent over a decade working as a birth doula and childbirth educator. Those experiences shaped her belief that families deserve individualized care, informed choices, and a provider who truly gets to know them. Today, she provides comprehensive home birth midwifery care to families throughout the South Bay and surrounding Los Angeles communities. As shown in evidenced based literature, she recognizes that for low-risk birth clients, birthing at home with a trained midwife is as safe or safer than birthing in a hospital in the US (Dahlen, 2019).

My dream home birth with my wonderful midwife Mikki! When I think about my birth, I genuinely feel like I could cry tears of joy. I light up talking about it because, even though my labor was intense and painful, I truly had my dream home birth. It was one of the most beautiful, powerful, peaceful, and empowering experiences of my life, and I know that so much of that is because I chose Mikki as my midwife! From the beginning, Mikki made me feel completely safe and confident in my body and in the process of birth. During labor, she somehow found the perfect balance between being completely present and giving my husband and me the space to labor freely. There was never a feeling of being rushed, interrupted, or told what I had to do. She allowed me to listen to my body and move through labor in whatever way felt right, while gently offering ideas when she thought something might help, getting into the birth pool, sitting on the toilet, changing positions, or offering homeopathy tailored to what I was experiencing (which was so helpful!). I never even had to ask. Mikki was simply paying attention and anticipating what I might need. As a first-time mom, I appreciated Mikki's guidance so much. Toward the end, she helped me understand where to direct my pushing - it was gentle guidance that helped me connect with what my body was already doing. At one point, Mikki recognized that my baby's head was almost, but not quite, in the ideal position. She had me move into puppy pose for three contractions, which was incredibly intense, but it gave my baby the opportunity to reposition to be born in the most optimal position. Shortly afterward, my baby was born, healthy and peacefully, right on our bed in our loving home. Mikki was so intentional and gentle during crowning and used olive oil throughout that part of the birth. I ended up having zero tearing, which still amazes me. (Pro tip: If your midwife isn't applying olive oil during crowning... find yourself one who does!!) My recovery has been wonderful, and I am so incredibly grateful for the care she gave my body while helping my baby into the world. After my baby was born, there was no rush. My baby was immediately placed on me and I had a completely uninterrupted golden hour. My placenta was still inside, my baby was on my chest, and everyone simply allowed us to be together. After about an hour, when we were ready, we cut the umbilical cord. My husband held our baby skin-to-skin while I birthed the placenta. Everything felt calm, peaceful, respectful, and unhurried. Throughout my entire labor, I never felt uncertainty from Mikki. She was calm and confident while continuously making sure both my baby and I were doing well. She and my second midwife Carolina thought of everything, food, water, electrolytes, a fan, different positions, comfort measures, while still somehow making it feel like they weren't interfering with my birth at all. That is one of the things I admire most about Mikki. She has such a deep sense of purpose in the work she does. She is incredibly knowledgeable and confident, but also calm, warm, and grounded. She knows when to step in, when to offer something, and when to simply give the space to the body do what it knows how to do. I truly believe the team you choose shapes the way you experience and remember your birth. Especially as a first-time mom, I could not have asked for a more positive or empowering entrance into motherhood. I am healthy, my baby is healthy, my recovery has been beautiful, and when I look back on his birth, I remember strength, love, peace, and how incredibly powerful I felt. Mikki helped create the space for my baby to enter this world peacefully, surrounded by people we trusted. I will forever be grateful to her for giving our family that experience. If you are looking for a midwife who deeply trusts birth and your body, who gives you space and autonomy while also having seemingly endless knowledge and several tricks up her sleeve when you need them, I could not recommend Mikki more wholeheartedly. What Mikki does truly feels like angel work. I will forever be grateful that she was my midwife, and I will rave about my birth to anyone who will listen for the rest of my life. It was truly magical.

Working with Roman during my pregnancy and birth experience was truly a gift. I had the most beautiful and empowering home water birth surrounded by love, peace, and support, and Roman played such an important role in helping create that space. Her presence was calming, intuitive, nurturing, and deeply grounding. I felt seen, safe, respected, and supported every step of the way. She held space for me in such a gentle yet powerful way and helped me stay connected to myself, my body, and the sacredness of the experience. As an artist and deeply creative person, I know this experience will stay with me forever and continue to inspire the way I create, heal, and hold space for others. Monica was a midwife to me for my second born baby. After delivering in a hospital with my first baby, I was sure I wanted different with my second baby. Monica was incredible, when she found out it was go time, she was more than prepared! She stayed connected, & we had a quick precipitous labor here my son was born to me in the water just 3 hours after laboring. I’ll never forget this experience and how Monica left a mark in my heart. The most empowering birth right after having had experienced a hospital birth.

I’m Kathy Peacock. I started my birth work journey as a student doula during nursing school at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. I attended many births as a doula including a couple home births and fell in love with it. I worked as an ICU nurse for a couple years, then, at my first prenatal visit with my own midwife, she learned I was a nurse and a doula and she said “Why not go back to school to become a midwife? We need more midwives!” The seed was planted and after a somewhat complicated pregnancy with surgery for a herniated disc in my back and getting the best care and a smooth home birth, I decided women deserve great care and I could be the one to provide it. I attended the Nurse-Midwife/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program at Georgetown University and did my last two rotations catching babies with a home birth practice and graduated in 2015. I worked as a birth assistant for a local home birth midwife for a year before joining another home birth practice as a full scope midwife. I worked with that practice for 5 years and attended over 200 births and provided care to more than 500 families. The pandemic threw a wrench in my plans and I decided to step away from midwifery to home school my kids for a couple years. In 2022, I eased my way back into midwifery as an adjunct professor teaching midwifery skills at Georgetown University. I then took a clinic position working with underserved populations providing prenatal care, gyn care and family planning. But I missed home birth! I started Peacock Midwifery Services because I like working in a smaller home birth practice where I can give specialized and individualized care to all of my clients and their families. I’ve lived in Takoma Park and more recently Silver Spring since 2006. Both my kids were born at home with midwives, my first in 2011 and my second in 2013. I co-parent my kids with my ex partner and live with my cat, Missy.
