Hi, my name is Tara O'Neill, and I'm a certified professional midwife licensed in the state of Michigan. We offer homebirth and waterbirth to low risk healthy clients in the Metro Detroit area. We focus on and support true physiological pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum. I believe that the role of a midwife is to provide informed, supportive, and attentive care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. In our practice, we recognize that each person and family is different and work to ensure that the care we provide meets the needs of each individual. We are committed to preserving client autonomy, and to ensuring that each client’s needs are met and that they are truly heard. In my free time, I enjoy spending time exploring the wonderful state of Michigan, reading, and spending time with loved ones.

This package is a Global Fee which includes all prenatal visits, labor, birth and postpartum visits, as well as standard pregnancy labs, waterbirth tub rental and newborn procedures. The initial non-refundable deposit of $1000 is required at the first prenatal visit, and the remaining fee($4500) is due by the first day of your 36th week. We believe Homebirth Midwifery should be an option for every family in the community. This package is reserved for one family per month who would otherwise be unable to afford homebirth. This package includes all prenatal visits, labor, birth and postpartum visits, as well as standard pregnancy labs, waterbirth tub rental and newborn procedures. We offer individualized prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum care for you and your baby through 6 weeks of age. Our excellent birth support services specialize in low-risk natural birth and water birth options. Our healthcare model provides families with the ideal combination of home comforts for the natural birth experience together with the confidence inspired by our Certified Professional and Licensed Midwives. We believe you deserve to be educated and informed throughout your pregnancy to feel empowered at birth, which carries through into parenting. At MI Birth, you can customize your birth experience through education, research and true informed consent and choose what is best for you and your family.
I have given birth with both Crystal and Tara twice. Once at a birthing center and once at home. Both were fantastic birth experiences where I always felt safe. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for supportive and capable midwives

3 months ago I delivered my second baby at home with the help of Tara and Anna from MI Birth Midwifery. I had a wonderful experience and everything I could have asked for! The entire team was attentive and welcoming throughout my pregnancy, respectful of every decision I made. When my delivery date was near, they were on standby ready for me to call them, and they communicated with me throughout my labor giving me tips to help it progress, and headed over to my residence promptly when things finally picked up. I felt very safe and supported through the entire process. Although this was my second out of hospital birth, my first birth was somewhat traumatic due to severe tearing, and I communicated the need for support to avoid a repeat tear. The midwives were very attentive to that need, guiding me through my breathing and pushing, and I managed to deliver without a scrape! I will 100% seek out care from them for my future babies and recommend them to any mom looking for a great homebirth experience :)

2 months ago I second birth with Tara as my midwife. My first was at a birthing center with another company, this time I gave birth in the comfort of my home surrounded by lovely midwives and student midwives. Neither of my births have been textbook and Tara, Crystal, and their team of student midwives met me with soo much support, kindness, knowledge, and experience! My first pregnancy experience with Tara has completely modified who I view nutrition while pregnant, TTC, and postpartum. My husband and I hope to have many children and the dream would be to have Tara deliver them all! I cannot recommend this group of lovely ladies enough.

Tara and Crystal were the most helpful, supportive team and I am so blessed to have found them. From the beginning they were honest and considerate in answering all of my questions and got my husband on board to try a homebirth, which was a great accomplishment. But the best accomplishment of them all was the birth of our beautiful son, at home, safely and surrounded by love. He has been the easiest baby of them all (he's our #4) and I believe that has a lot to do with the ease of birthing at home. Where do I begin? This team has a huge place in my heart. My midwives were complete strangers in the beginning and I was going back and forth of what I was searching for since my first birth experience was so traumatic and ended with an emergency c-section. The Lord provided this most amazing team to teach, support and guide me through the most vulnerable moment a women can go through and I am beyond grateful for their love and friendship. To fully trust someone with your life and babies life in the span of 9 months is an amazing thing. We laughed together often and they brought so much joy to my day. I looked forward to every appointment. They helped prepare me for any circumstance and explained options or possibilities extremely well. I had peace through my whole pregnancy because they prepared me well and I knew they were ready for anything. They took everything I said to heart and were there for me exactly how I needed them. They are all so professional, not missing one detail and they also are so personable and loving, they felt like family. Can’t wait for my next baby so I can work with them again.

It’s hard to put into words how amazing my experience was having a home birth with MI Birth Midwifery. This was my first baby and I was blessed enough to have a healthy baby girl at home at 41 and 5, 10.4 lbs and couldn’t have done it without Tara and Crystal’s care as well as their students. Each appointment from day one was so attentive to each aspect- baby, my mental and physical health and was extremely educational. I never felt rushed, could ask all the questions and always left with so much peace and confidence! They were extremely accessible throughout my pregnancy and even postpartum in those first few weeks as a new mama. When it was time for baby, Tara came right on time and took care of us so patiently and had such a calm presence it made me feel very safe at home. No one in my circle had ever had a home birth, but after my experience many are inspired and excited to plan their birth to be at home. Forever grateful and thankful for their care and couldn’t recommend this team more!

Crystal & Tara are the birthing dream team!! I cannot sing praises about them enough. They are both a wealth of knowledge with such different experiences. They are funny, supportive, adaptable, kind, and most of all caring. They make everything feel so safe. You can truly tell how passionate they are about pregnancy/birth/postpartum. It was truly an honor to have them in our home. Knowing your birth team from day 1 is so special. Compared to a hospital birth when you get whatever staff is working. I would have 100 more home births to have them deliver my babies. Maybe that’s a bit much😂 but if you can’t tell, my experience with them was incredible. I cannot recommend them enough!!

I am incredibly grateful for Tara’s help during my birth. I was working with another team of amazing midwives in the area. When the big day arrived, Tara joined because one of my main midwives was out attending another birth. Tara played a crucial role in my delivery. After hours of laboring in different positions, Tara stepped in and suggested some guided pushing. This was exactly what I needed as a first-time mom. With her help and gentle guidance, I gathered all the remaining strength I had and gave birth to our beautiful baby boy. Thank you, Tara! The team at MI Birth is amazing- I had a great experience having their care for my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum visits! Hold on to your pants, because I loved my experience with this team so much that this review is going to be a long one. I got to know Crystal, Tara, and the different student midwives during the prenatal visits and they all offered excellent care. When I went into labor, both midwives came and two of the students, and it was so nice to have a variety of expertise. I am especially impressed with their ability to offer information and research about choices without bringing in their personal preferences/opinions. In my experience with the team, this truly provides a safe space for the client to take in the information, discuss options with them, and make a decision without feeling judged or pressured by anybody on the care team, even unintentionally. I’ve honestly never had another provider who created such an intentionally inclusive and respectful environment regarding your pregnancy and birth preferences! Whether you are the type to want as little “interference” as possible during pregnancy and birth, or you want a pregnancy and home birth with “more” assistance (more dilation checks, ultrasounds, tests, vaccines, etc), I truly believe they would be a wonderful care team. Crystal and Tara have so much combined experience, and having a team of 2 midwives and several assistants really gave me so much confidence that no matter what other births or circumstances came up, they would be here for me with enough “hands on deck” when I went into labor. And they did- even though they had three births in 24 hours- two back-to-back the day before me, and then mine early in the morning, you never would have guessed it when they showed up for me. They were fully prepared, focused, and not distracted, with enough people to handle that kind of packed schedule and they gave me exactly the support and care that I wanted and needed. I don’t think I’d want to go back to a working with a home birth midwife who works alone, or with only one assistant, now that I’ve experienced working with a team of two midwives! I’m kind of spoiled. 😂 My experience with the MI Birth team has been kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable care from a team that can support you without pressuring you. We would love to have their support again for future pregnancies!
